I suppose that it should be pointed out that a number of sellers on EpAy are selling repro No32Mk2 scopes with fake markings as originals...

Originally the give away was that they were Mk2 scopes marked as Mk3's. Apparently this internet critique has been taken to heart by the maker as they are now being marked as Mk2 scopes.

Examples are:
ePaY # 220611564903, 190399531312

also available with repro scope boxes, mounts and base pads...

ALL being marketed as original...

Repro 32 Scopes

Scary.......

nothing is sacred in the repro world.

Just go to the IMA (International Military Antiques) site and see how many times the words "Reproduction" or "Newly Made" appear.

I'm not a british scopes collector so I don't have many informations about No.32 scopes. Everything I know on this scope is what I can see engraved on it. Some of you tell me it's a reproduction, other ones send me high offers to buy it out of the auction. Everything I can say is that I've never seen reproductions of this scope but this one is very clean for an old specimen. So, be careful before bidding, look for informations. I can't give warranty on the originality of this scope.

From the first auction...

We've been discussing this one for a while now ... :)

Warning - Fake No.32 MkIII on eBayhttp://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=21849.

One of our Australian members bought the Mark 2 and will be posting a review and pictorial on it once he receives it.

He also contacted the vendor and posted his feedback, indicating that he was essentially unaware that these were reproductiions. ;)

With prices rising like they have, I think this is just the start of seeing a lot of high end Enfield reproductions that aren't marked as such.

Heck, we just went through a thread tracking an eBay auction for a 1944 REL Canadian Sniper's CMK1 Observing Telescope 1944 that went for $5,200 (Cdn) after 24 bids.

Anyone wanna bet they are made in China?

I think the thread discussion from folks who handled them at a Dutch gun show leaned towards Russia. Once the forum member gets his, he'll be posting a detailed photo montage for Peter, Roger and others to dissect and give their opinions.

Personally, I don't think they're Chinese, but rather from the same group who produce reproduction PU and PEM scopes, which I've had a real close look at. Just my two cents.. ;)

Doug

He has no idea what they have.

If they sold them as repros I would be interested. Funny. People will just get really suspicious and the makers will shoot themselves in the foot trying to make a quick buck.
