Is it an FN FAL or an L1A1? One is Belgian and the other British. There were a hundred different contract runs out of Belgium and UK.

The Indian FN I have (Model is 1A1) has a BH###X serial number.

Found out from a picture from seller that it is an Ishapore.
Adding it and another Aussie L1A1 to the vault queens.

The first two digits of the serial number on the Australian L1 A1 indicates the year. I can't remember if the British L1s use the same method.

Brit L1A1s use a two letter code followed by a two number code (year of manufacture), followed by the actual serial number. For example UB 59 A123456 (UB means made by BSA, 59 means made in 1959 and the rest is the actual serial number). As mentioned, Aussie rifles are AD followed by the year and a five digit serial number. For example AD7501368 would have been manufactured in 1975.
