I`ve been considering putting a scope on my M305 and have read reviews of both the Falcon 1.5-5x30 SIR and the Millett 1-4x24 DMS. Any thoughts, based on experience please, of which would be the better option? I have also considered the Leopold 1.5-5X20 with stoney point turret caps.

My priorities are;

- It has to hold zero or it is useless.
- Good optical quality. As good as possible in that price range at least.
- Repeatable adjustments that will allow me to zero at 100 and then dial in for wind and distance.
- It must be workable using the Smith mount that sits on my M305 and I would prefer to mount as low as possible.

If you have a better option in the less than $500 range, please share it. The purpose is fun shooting with the possibility of going hunting.

Thanks.

I have no idea about the use of the Smith mount with these scopes. Both are 30mm, the Leupold is 1".
I have quite a bit of experience with the Falcon Menace. It is a fine scope. A friend just installed a Millett on his carbine. It is also a fine scope.
I think the FM adjustments are superior - actual target type finger knobs, with usable scales. The Millet has finger adjustable knobs, but are not as easy to use. More like a hunting scope.
The reticles are different. FM has 3 bars and a dot, Millet has a circle and dot, with fine reference bars. Both illuminate the centre dot, but work just fine without a battery.
The Leupold is excellent. Rather than using the Stoney Point knobs, I would send the scope away and have Leupold target knobs installed. One of the very competitive service rifle shooters in ON uses the Leupold with target knobs.

When I had my 305 I used the Falcon. Clear optics, held zero.
Looking back, I'd probably get something with a little more maginification.

I had mine on the Basset mount. No idea about the Smith.
With low rings I still needed a cheeck riser to get a good weld, even though I have a relatively big noggin.
