Hey guys, was going to put a Simmons 44 Mag on my incoming .300 Win Mag Tikka but I found this and it seems like a much better scope for a decent price. I'm really trying not to break the bank on the scope as I spent more then planned on the rifle and upgrades. http://frontierfirearms.ca/index.php/optics/scopes/falcon-5-5-25x50mm-bm-metric.html I assume I'm allowed to link it as its from a site sponsor but does anyone have any experience with this scope? If so please give me your thoughts on it!

Cheers and thanks guys,
Mitch

For learning, it will do what you need it to do. Having said that the scope I purchased for learning long range was a Millet LRS1 6-25x56, and although it worked for something at a decent price, I wish I had listened to what people had told me and bought something of quality the first time. At the very least I wish I bought something along the lines of a Sightron first.
Now I have fully realized that long range shooting is not an inexpensive endevour and that it is much more enjoyable with decent equipment. The nice thing about quality glass is that it really doesn't depreciate much.

BUT, if you just don't have the coin and want to start shooting now(like I did), then the Falcon or Millet will get the job done for now. But know that in the future, if you catch the precision bug(very easy to catch!) then you will be selling it and upgrading in the future most likely anyway.

My 0.02

Thanks for all the input guys, I've pretty well decided to stay away from "No Name" scopes and my local gunshop is trying to get their hands on a good Bushnell Elite Tactical for me at a decent price, figured that I should spend a little more for a better optic then taking a wash on the cheeper one when I decide to replace it anyway.

Cheers,
Mitch

I had a Falcon 5.5-25x56 and it was not a very good scope. The clicks were mushy, the turrets were very tight, the reticle was spotted, the glass was dim and from what I saw, they tracking would not pass any form of box test.

Even for $500, it was hardly worth the money. Buying a Vortex for $1000 would give you more than twice the quality and function, as well as a kick a$$ waranty.

The Falcon is still the cheapest FFP I know of though so there's that to consider as well.

I dont know if this can help you,
I have the 4-14 and to dial up tp 600 yards it is dead on but to get back to 150 yards I have to dial few clics more down and come back up to 150
I guess there is some backlash somewere
I also have a viper pst 6-24, tried a sightron111 8-32 and a elite 6500 tactical 40-30 and talking about glass quality, the Sightron111 wins all the way

Also you could get a Vortex Viper 6.5x20x50 for $500 as well. I have never owned the 5.5-25x56 but I have had a 4x14x44 & the Viper, the Viper is a better scope for the money.

I'm now owning a Viper PST 6x24x50 and it is a smoking awesome scope :D

Yeah I was just paralleling the FFP 5.5-25 equivalent from Falcon to Vortex. The Vortex is double the cost, but like Katana mentioned, you can get a Viper in SFP for the same price as the Falcon and the Viper will still come with the same VIP warranty as the PST.
