Well as promised here is my impression of the Menace 10X42 Countersniper Scope with the MP-20 Retical.
First impression.
The scope came in a black box with no markings on it. It had me a little worried as it very closely resembled the type of boxes you see with Chinese clone type gear.
Not to worry. Once I opened the box I was pleasantly supprised to find what appears to be a very decent scope inside the box. The body of the scope is very solid and has some good weight to it. I proceeded to imediately mount it onto My M-14 set into the JAE 100 Stock. In the house I played with the turrets a bit and found them quite comfortable to turn with very audible clicks when adjusting the 1/4"MOA turrets. The glass apeared to be very clear with a sharp image right out to the edges. The parallax adjustment knobs were very fine and focus sharp over all ranges.
Now off for a shoot.
I figured the M-14 would be a good test bed for the durability and repeatability of a scope, cause if its going to take a beating its going to take a beating on an M-14. I set my zero at 100yrds, after dialing in I went to set the top turret and windage turrets to the zero mark. There is an allen key to loosen the turret caps off and if you are not careful you will move your zero a click or two. The caps have to come right off and be reset on the scope to the Zero Mark.
We spent the day shooting and I ran 200rnds through the scope and rifle shooting at targets from 100-500 meters working the turrets up and down with no loss of zero and excellent repeatability through all ranges. The MP-20 is calibrated in Miliradian with .5mil markers in the retical. Very nice setup. After 50rnds I shot the box up, left, down, right, up, left and down. with a perfect return to zero. I repeated the box again after 100rnds and again a perfect return to zero. The scopes clarity was excellent Range day with the scope was a success.
Ok all was not 100% with the scope had 2 minor glitches. 1 The front scope cover came off, the pin for the flipup cap worked its way loose after 20 some rounds and fell off, Scope caps get a negative score for quality. I attached the scope shade and hand tightend it on. With the cycling of the rifle I found it would work it's way loose after a couple of mags. So I give the scope shade a negative score.
Over all I think the scope is well worth the money and I would have no hesitation using it on an M-14 AR-15 platform or bolt guns. It does not compete with the leupolds and Nightforce scopes or higher end optics, and would not be my choice for a serious competition or precision rifle scope but over all I would give it 4 outa 5 stars for Its category. I would say it is better than alot of scopes in its price range and don't think you would be making a mistake in using it as a starter scope or for everyday use.
Here are some pics of the rifle and scope...sorry in my excitement of shooting it I forgot to take the camera to the range. I will update with more pics on another outing.
