Falcon Menace Reticles?

I'm going to pick up a Falcon Menace 5.5-25x56. I'm unsure of reticles though.

There's the EMD Metric and the ML Metric.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm no expert on reticles) but the only difference is that one has normal mil dots and the other has hash marks at the same intervals as the dots?

What is the advantage to either? Which is better? I'd think the target would be more visable at a further range with the hash marks than with the dots. Can you range the same with either reticle?

I have the Falcon Menace 4.5-18x56. It's a fine scope for the money and I have no problem seeing the bullet holes at 200m. However, I feel that the thickness of the reticle cross hairs is right at the acceptable limit at that range if you are going for precision shooting. Though, I did some looking through a high end Schmidt & Bender scope and it doesn't seem to have a thinner cross hair, so maybe it's not that uncommon. As far as the dots/hash marks, I doubt that either would make a difference.

I was looking at the same model you are talking about, with the FFP reticle, but I found a good deal on mine instead. I don't think you will be disappointed , whatever you choose.
 
The hash marks don't obscure the view as much as a mildot. As a result the hash marks also work better for drop down markers for quick shooting at known distances.

The ML-16 reticle on my Falcon scopes is very similar to the Night Force NP-R1 reticle. It's my favourite overall reticle.
 
The Enhanced Mildot (EMD) and the ML16 both have the half-mil hash marks. The EMD has normal mildots with half-mil lines in between them. The ML16 has lines in place of the dots, with short lines at the half-mil marks.

Both are very effective for holdovers where you don't quite need a full mil. I haven't found either one distracting while shooting, but some think they are a bit busy. Personal preference really.

On a side note, if you were looking at getting a 5.5-25x56EMD from me, I think I only have one left (will have to get my wife to check stock). I will probably have a new order in the new year.
