falcon menace vs bushnell elite 4200 tactical

I was hoping that someone that owned these two scopes could give me thier honest opinion on the quality of the scopes compared to each other.

Well I got my Falcon Menace from Frontier firearms and had it a few days after placing the order...wicked fast customer service.

I bought the 4.5-18x56IR and love it. I've read a bit about the Elite 4200 6-24x50 and its a good scope too with great glass but it seems that the adjustment isn't as high/much as the falcon menace for shooting far distance(something like that).

But I am satisfied with the falcon, for the money it's a good scope.

I have 3 Falcon's (4.5x18x56) and 4 Elite 4200's (3x9, 4x16, 6x24 and 8x32). In my experience the glass on the Falcon's is not quite as clear as on the 4x16 4200 but on par with the others. The Falcon's are consistent - ie no change from scope to scope to scope and have stood up well to a year of shooting. The scopes ( Falcon and 4200's ) are, of course, different with different 'audiences' in mind but for the target shooter ( who uses target turrets etc. ) who also likes the tactical look, the Falcon's are very hard to beat in this price range. For a hunting rifle though the 4200's get the nod as they are sleeker in profile and, consequently, are lighter. The other concern ought to be to match the scope to the rifle - and I'm not just talking looks here - for example, my Falcon's would unbalance the handing of a Remington 700 BDL but fit quite perfectly the Remington R5 which has a heavier and longer barrel.

In summary - both good scopes and well worth the money.

One other thing to consider. The 4-14x 44mm FFP has 94% light transmission. Many are basing Falcon glass on the 4.5-18x 56mm scope which had 92% light transmission. This is a fairly decent difference.

The good news: The new 4.5-18x 56mm now have 94% light transmission as well. This puts the varmint scope on par with the FFP and the 1.5-5x 30mm SIR. Both of which have glass that is comparable to the 4200.

It pretty much comes down to features and price.

That being said, I have to agree about the hunting use. The Falcon's aren't designed for that.

The 4200 (or at least, the last one I used) SFA elevation adjustment. Something sad like 40 minutes (says 50MOA on the Bushy site for the 50mm version but the Varmint version says 24MOA adjustment only:eek:). Doesn't give you much to work with when you try to stretch the rifle out. A buddy had one on his 700P 308 and ran out of elevation right quick. He swapped it out for a 16x Leupold and the 4200 now lives on his 223.

IMHO it would be hard for the Falcon to be worse than that, but I suppose it's possible. I've never used one, just a pessimist.
