Fancy 10/22's Worth The $$$?

A stock 10-22 is a great item, only thing I think it really needs is an aftermarket extractor.
That single $10 item makes the whole firearm a lot more reliable.

Just for plinking at the club, we have a competition every sunday morning so would like it to be fairly accurate.

Not looking to spend a ton of cash right now.

My brother has a 10/22 and I remember the trigger was horrible, I had a 77/22 with a trigger kit and it was night and day. But I read that the 10/22's trigger upgrade is good as well.

Was also looking at a Henry lever action but I'm digging all the upgrades available for the 10/22.

Eventually I'll have one of each...and a 452 A:)

I love my 10/22... it's a higher-end stainless model with a laminated stock, but no fancy tacticool gear on it. I upgraded the trigger group, put in a bolt buffer and an extended mag release for quicker reloads... those are about the only three mechanical upgrades I feel are really needed to a stock 10/22. The rest seems flawless. No problems with the extractor after a few boxes of ammo either (not yet, at least).

Also, another cool thing about them is that they're not picky about ammo... the thing shoots everything, from the cheapest Walmart Winchester 22LR to the much more potent (and slightly longer) high-velocity "CCI Stinger" ammo. The devil is in the mag though... as long as you're not using aftermarket mags, the 10/22 will never let you down. I find that aftermarket stuff is really sub-standard as far as mags go for that gun (both my Butler Creek 50 rd mags jam constantly & lock the bolt/rip ammo open inside the receiver).

So, in my experience, it has POS aftermarket mags... but it's a great semi-auto 22LR when used with Ruger's original 10-round clips, which don't cost a lot either! Very simple to take apart & work on too... just a few basic parts and no threaded barrel (it's held in place by two screws instead, lol... so, if you can use a screwdriver/allen wrench, you can play gunsmith all day long!).

:D

Me personally. I am going to buy a SR22. I'm in it for the whole "tacticool" look. But my first investment are going to be a Volquartsen High Performance Kit & Extractor. Then a decent barrel. I was not surprised at the total cost of upgrades and accessories to doll it up ... it came to about a $950.00 including taxes and shipping just to get my wish list looking right and for what I wanted in the end ... and that's is not including the cost of the rifle :D :p

Guess it all depends on what you want to do with it. You can spend a little more the 10/22T or 10/22TT or just buy a base model and do a few accuracy upgrades. I bought a 10/22T and wasn't satisfied with it so I've built a 10/22 and the only Ruger part in it is the magazine. The one I've built has a Dlask receiver, 16" fluted target barrel, picatinny mount, Kidd bolt, charging handle and spring kit, buffer, action pin set, complete trigger assembly, after market v-block and a Revolution Yukon Extreme stock. That's a bill for about $1100 and a Leupold scope was another $850. So, how much do you want to spend? :D
