fastest 7mm loads . . i wanna know just for giggles

i was doing around 3300 fps with a 160 grain barnes boattail x bullet in my stw
this was in a 26 inch barrel .

this was done on a buddies chronograph . the loads tested had a fair amount of room to grow .
i haven't tested hot handloads over a chrony yet .

im getting 3220 fps from 150 gr sciroccos.
26 tube.

printing nice groups too

how much hotter are the stw's and ultra mags?

Never shot 150's in my STW but 140's go around 3550-3600 give or take (also a 26" pipe). I got a reading of 3300 fps with 160's but I have to check my Chrony as it seems to be read high.

Not saying you're not getting that speed but 150's going 3220 fps in 7RM seems dang hot (nosler, barnes and Hogdon publish below 3100 fps as max).....Good case life ?

I've safely done 3350fps in my STW shooting 160gr accubonds. I'm currently shooting 3250fps.

I bought some old factory Winchester 150gr powerpoints from LeBarons last month and they chrony at over 3500:eek:

my 7mag is an easy conversion RUM or STW, its a ruger no1. ill gladly cook that barrel for a chance to kill @ 4000fps.
kinda have to avoid those double shoulder shots though

Years back I had a Browning Medalion in 7 Rem Mag with a 26" barrel. The original thin skinned Nosler Ballistic Tips were just out. 62 grains of IMR4350 showed 3220 as an average on my Chrony then. The Nosler manual showed 63 grains as the max. Never tried 63 because 62 was plenty fast and grouped great. Problem was those first Ballistic Tips were explosive! Shot plenty of deer and coyotes with them. Never had an exit wound on deer and had 'yotes nearly split in half. Deer usually dropped in their tracks but too much meat got wasted on some shots.
