A father-son hunting trip took a fatal turn when a 63-year-old man from Prince Albert, Sask., man accidently shot and killed his 36-year-old son in rural Saskatchewan.

The pair were hunting in an area about 280 km east of Saskatoon on Friday.

Saskatchewan RCMP said the father returned to the hunt camp after the shooting to call for assistance through On Star, and emergency workers were dispatched by ATV to the isolated location.

There is no word whether police expect to lay charges, but the coronor's office and RCMP's major crimes division continue to investigate.

It would be really nice if these people learned how to handle firearms and hunt properly. If you don't know 100% what you're shooting at. DON'T SHOOT! If you aren't going to shoot in the immediate future don't have your finger on the trigger or your safety off. If you can't follow those simple rules get your ass back to the city.

the better solution is don't load until you are going to shoot. to rely on safety is another dose for disaster.

I won't hunt with anyone who load his rifle full time thinking his safety will prevent misfire.

Before the endless lecture on gun safety begins maybe we should just say a prayer for the family. Regardless of why or how this was a terrible tragedy.

I don't hunt, but if I did I would definitly add this step to my routine.

I can't even fathom the heartache this family is feeling right now or the guilt this man will carry for the rest of his days.

So sad !!!!

Yes it was a tragedy , but the safety aspect cannot be emphasized enough. It may sound cold but drilling procedure and rules and safety is the only way to help slow this down and prevent further incidents.EVERY hunting incident is avoidable, there are no accidents.

Agreed that safety can never be underestimated. However, all the details are not out and even with safety rules strickly followed the possibility of accidents do and will always occur. Accidents can be prevented but sooner or later they occur. There are just too many uncontrolable variables. I was just hoping that before all of the "I told you so's" we might wait for the details.

If you're planning on loading your rifle with a deer standing 30 yards in front of you, you'll be eating vegetable soup rather than venison.

Know your target and how to properly handle a firearm. I can't imagine the horror that man had to face initially, and then having to break the news to his wife. My wife would literally kill me. There would not be a home to go to.

this father should not be allowed to walk away with his "pain". 2 years minimum jail time for any "accident" like this.

he killed a person,he deserve the punishment. I'm sick to hear any words showing sympathy towards this person. the son was the victim, not him.

bino to check if it is the legal game to take... then rifle on your shoulders to pull... hate it when people depend on their scope to see what game it is. scary...
if the game runs away trying to count points with your bino or whatever, so be it, be safe and have fun! getting away from home is good enough for me! getting something is just a bonus
