Just wondered if there was any consensus on favorite 223 powder for bullets in the 45 - 70 gr bullets, (mainly Hornady AMAX). I have been using Varget but thinking of trying a powder more suited for lighter bullets.

Im using a Blaser R93 bolt action if that helps when making suggestions.

H335. flows like water, and its very consistent. IMR4198 works very well too, but its a pain to put through the Hornady LNL powder drop. All those little sticks breaking makes it feel like rocks

Bullet, barrel twist and length aren't specified as well as intended use so hard to give an answer. All the noted powders will work as well as many others. Everyone makes a .223 powder or two. My best powder in my heavy 22" barrel with a 1-9 twist with a 60 grain FBSP is IMR8208XBR followed by CFE223. For HPBT 55 grainers Varget also performs well. Varget is my go to powder for those 50 grain Varmint Grenades. I don't shoot the 75 grain VLD's but since they are right on the edge of stability in my rifle I would go with the powder that gave me the best muzzle velocity to compensate for the slower twist rate. In this case it would be Varget or H4895.

I use bl-c2, or cfe223 also use h4895, imr 3031 and Russian mystery powder.. Have had good results with all but ball powders are easiest to meter so use them when I can

big variance in bullet weights, so that will ideally require a few different powders.

All of these listed above work well, as well as 4064 and 4350 and RAM TAC.
