Just wondering what everyone's preferred primer is for 308 Winchester hunting loads? I purchased a Kimber Hunter in 308 and haven't loaded much for this cartridge. Bullets will be from 130's to 165's pending on what it likes.

Thanks

I have some cci 200's but I've heard, probably not fact, that they are not optimal for velocity. That's why I asked the original question. Should have clarified that.

As I have just got into reloading, this is an interesting question.
What difference does it make, and how do you know if there is any advantage of one over another with the exception of cost and/or propensity for hang fires?

I've heard of guys using magnum primers and getting better velocity and more consistent performance. (Better burn) I have cci 200 and 250's federal 215's. A lot of guys seem to use the 210's from what I've read.

Just asking the question before I start

Dominion primers from Canada Ammo are my choice because the price is right and they shoot as well as CCI primers in my experience and much better than some Winchester magnum primers I bought when I couldn't find any other LR primers. About the best that can be said for those primers is that they went "bang" every time and any ammo loaded with them would be hard-pressed to meet the military specification for overhead fire applications.

Other than that, if you are loading for a lightweight hunting rifle, whatever standard primers you can find will probably be fit for purpose.

I use CCI 200's for reloading: 243, 30-30, 308, 270, 30-06 & 35 Whelen.

Have yet to have any issues, loads have always been accurate/consistent for my needs.

CCI 200's, BR2, and Fed 210's.
I'll never put a large magnum primer in a 308 case again, nope. In small primer's like CCI450's for 308palma brass they're ok though.
