Favorite Cast for 30wcf?

Would like to get into casting, and first up is a good plinking round for my 30-30. Anybody have a favorite mould for the old 94? I've been looking at the Lee #90366 which is a 150 gr. FP, but I'm sure open to suggestion. I'm shooting a Canadian Centennial carbine with the heavy octoganal barrel.
 
have not tried it my self only tried 150g

but rumor has it 170-180g are the one's to get

also 170-180g have more energy if you go hunting than the 150g
 
all depends what you want to use it for, once you start casting you will acquire molds just to try them. If you doubt me, come back in about 8 months and I will give you a big told ya so!!! That being said 150-180 gr are traditional for 30wcf. Gas checks help in being able to push performance.
 
The lee 150 mold is very accurate. With a gas check installed this comes out at 165gr with WW alloy. Another good mold is lyman 311041. The Lyman comes out as cast at 182 gr. I push this at 2000 fps with good accuracy. The lee is the more economical way to go when starting casting.
 
I use two moulds for my 30-30. For plinking, I use the famous Lee Soupcan mould: C-309-113-F, which makes a cute little 113 Gr boolit, that flies quite accurately. At a 113 Gr, you can make quite a few more boolits with every pound of lead!

My hunting round will be the Lee C-309-170-F, which is a more serious weight of 170 Gr, which, I'm told most Marlin's prefer. I've not worked out a full load yet, as I don't have any gaschecks yet, but I'm told 34 Gr of RL 15 is a good start. I say 'will be' as I've not hunted with it yet. Should be ready by this season though. :D

Both these boolits are flat with a nice meplat. I get reasonable accuracy with my reduced load of 7 to 7.5 Gr of BE. Heck my 10 year old gets 2 inch groups at 50 metres with this load. More importantly, she gets to shoot daddy's cool levergun and I don't have to wince at the cost of the ammo! :p
 
The Lyman #311041 is kinda the standard bullet for the 30/30, when cast hard and gas checked, mine weigh 175grs. and are very accurate, in fact it is one of my most accurate .30 cal. bullets when used in accurate bench guns.
 
I use a Lee C309-170-F mould casting a 170 gr and tumble lube I have had very good results just dropping them out of the mould and tumble lube and hand press a Lyman gas check.
14.5 GR IMR 4227 for a low velocity plinking round
