I'm in the market for a grind to fit recoil pad - I have an old mossberg 500 wood stock i want to shorten and install a new pad on, the current pad is the old red/brown style and about as pliable as a hockey puck.

Limbsaver, Pachmyer, and kick eez are the ones I'm finding with a quick Google search, are there other brands I'm missing?

So what's your favorite and why? Tackiness (or lack of)? Longevity/resistance to deterioration over time? Recoil reduction?

Thanks!

What Leeper said. Just finished tormenting myself with a Limbsaver. Did one a couple of years ago and turned out nice, this new one is gummy and looks like a dog chewed it. Too soft, even after freezing it.

I’ve used a bench belt sander, about 4” wide with a variety of grits.
I saw a tip on wetting them with WD40 to make a smoother surface and while messy it definitely polished the edge smooth.
I’ll have to try freezing them on the next one, that sounds like a good idea.

pachmayer decelerator is a firmer pad. I have had Limbsaver grind to fit and air tech pads as well.

In all reality I don’t really have a preference. I think the pachmayer handles wear and tear better on a rifle that gets used hard.

limb savers are nice but they are very soft, they would be good on a shotgun if letting kids shoot it with full size loads. they are gummy but absorb a lot.

my light weight 460 Weatherby has one on it and if i hold it just right i can read "limbsaver" on my shoulder 10 minutes after the shot.

its the nitro
