Hey all!

I'm heading out to get some reloading gear tomorrow (if the shipment comes in), and want to get everything in one trip if I can. I plan to load for my 8mm mauser (Yugo M48). I'm going to be using a Lee 50th kit with the Perfect Powder Measure, and understand that maybe IMR-4064 might not meter well in this powder measure.

I'm going to be looking for projectiles of the 185 - 200 grain spitzer variety, but what are some of the pet loads for this round as far as primer and powder? I'm new to reloading, so something thats easy to load consistantly is the big thing. Whats my best bet for powder that will work well in my powder measure?

Thanks!

I use a lot of Vihtavuori N150 and N550 in my 8x57. Gets the best velocities with the 185 and 200 grain bullets. Both are nicer to meter than 4064 is. Eagleye.

from what I'm reading, I might end up with Varget. its listed right on the nosler site for my load, and seem to fill the case OK. Can be used for either 180 grain or 200 grain loads and even the lighter (150 gn) 308 loads which is another chambering I shoot. When it comes right down to it, its going to depend entirely on what they have in stock, but I just want to have some idea of what I should be looking for. Once I have my kit, I will have my loading bible, and be off to the races.

I guess the metering isnt a HUGE deal, I will end up verifying every charge before loading it, and will top up by hand if need be.

Hopefully the gun stores order has come in, and I will have all my gear by the end of the day! I have to head one city down the freeway if I need anything gun related that Canadian Tire doesnt stock. There arent any gun stores around where I live, hence why I want to try and get everything in one trip for my first run of ammo! It also might explain why Im starting to hand-load! lol (30 bucks a box for 8mm, plus 20 for gas = more than I want to spend to shoot my M48!).

take care, and I will let you know what load I end up with!

blc-2 should be nicer to meter than 4064 and its supposed to give a little more velocity. I was going to try that one next but 4064 has served very well with 175 gr. bullets.

I have to add RL15 and H380, wich is one of my favourite with 195-200 grains bullets. In winter time, I use Magnun primers.

I got all my tools, just need components now. ended up ordering the tools online.

prolly going to try for H380 or Varget. plan on using Federal 210M primers. does this sound right to ignite about 47 grains of H380? the recipe doesnt explicitly state which primer to use, but everything else "in the ballpark" seems to use Federal Large Rifle primers. I've read that using too hot a primer can also cause overpressure issues, and I dont really want this to happen. lol should I get a pack of CCI 200 and Remington primers while Im at the store?

I got my hands on a Vhit manual, and it lists 200 grain speer and nosler bullets with different powder loads. N140 and N150 for speer 200 grain, and N160 for nosler 200 grain? the nosler is listed as a partition though, and not a spitzer? AND THERES STILL NO SPECIFIED PRIMER! lol

anyway, take care! I will keep everyone informed as to my progress!
