I am sure there are gunnutz here who shoot lots more Canada Geese than me.
I have been using 3 inch Black Cloud BB........Seems to work well, but am wondering what real successful Canada Goose hunters use.
Was thinking # 2 might be best for Snows and BB for Canadas, but I am not an expert on geese.
Have heard good things about Kent Fassteel , but have tried nothing but Black Cloud so far.
Guess that I am looking for recommendations on both brand and shot size in 3 inch for Canadas at say 30 yards with 40 yards as maximum distance.
Let's pretend that cost per box of shells is not an issue.......just simply the best" dead in the air" load out there.

In the goose feild I rum 3 inch #3 or #4 winchester blind side with a pattern master full choke. I have killed a lot of birds in the 35 to 40 yard range

Patternmaster choke and almost any load. Kent is very good, blind side and black cloud also but pricey. Saw lots of birds die with "Score" ammo (Manitoba made) this fall. Hevi Metal is very potent but you have to learn how to shoot it due to speed. I shoot 2's across the board as I often find mixed fields of ducks and geese and give a little on each end to only have to carry one shell

I decided it was too much effort and BS to have one shell for geese, and one for ducks, so I am using for both Kent Faststeel 3" #2, or the Winchester equivalent, mainly because they are the cheapest, and some days one gets carried away. This round seems to me to be the best compromise.

Used to carry BB for the geese, but I find that #3 does fine. Got a few waterfowling this year so far when out for ducks, just doesn't make sense to have 2 separate rounds lying around..

Obviously what patterns best for your gun but for my Versamax with factory MOD I've had good success with Kent 3" BB.

the thing that gonna pattern best anmd how much you want to pay . use to shoot nearly only the blackloud stuff , the snow goose one was very good in my shotgun

I never shoot 3" any more, and there certainly is no need at the OP's stated 30-40 yds. Kent Faststeel 2-3/4" 1-1/16 oz #1's are deadly on greater Canadas with Modified choke. I also use 2's or 3's if there are a lot of ducks coming in to the spread or if primarily hunting Snows or lesser Canadas.

Thank you for all the information posted to my question. It sounds like I should perhaps move to # 2 shot size after my box or so of BB is used up.

I usually carry the new Imperial 1 1/8 - 2/3/4 steel load in #3 shot which works for smaller geese and ducks at 40 yds and would work for Canada Geese at shorter range. If I am specifically targeting Canada Geese then I switch to Kent Faststeel 3" #2

Good topic, I was shooting Black Cloud Snowgoose BB's and Winchester Expert #3 this year. I will have to try some of the suggestions on here next year so I don't have to bring two types of shells for one site.

I've been pulling a lot of small pellets out of the birds I've killed this year....perhaps this thread is a good indication as to why. I run Kent 3" BB (1 1/8 ounce load) in my twelve gauge. best advice i have is respect your range, learn how to pull them in tight and kill them clean.
