just curious what everyone prefers to hunt and why.

my pick is mule deer, very good excuse to get out and climb some hills and glass hillsides and spot and stalk. kind of like looking for a sheep (they live on the same mountains and i have had both in the field of my binoculars at the same time) except with a reasonable chance of success. a big muley buck may not be quite the phantom that a big whitetail is, but he is no dummy and is too me, a much more impressive animal. also, they are in the same country as some nice elk except that they are not so much work to get out. goat country is spectacular and well worth the effort, but it is more of an expedition than a hunt (when hunting muleys i can sleep in my own bed every night, no such luck with goats).

so to me, mule deer are the most fun. and the best excuse i can come up with to get up early and be outdoors. same mountains, far easier to deal with than an elk, easier to find than a sheep, more "civilized" than goat hunting, and more impressive than a whitetail.

Tough question. It's a split call between moose and turkey.

Moose is awsome for the trip, the big game animal, bein at camp with the lads...etc etc.
Turkey is pure adrenaline, love it!

I just started Turkey hunting last year; I got to say I love it. Last year I was setup at the bottom of a pine bush and I had 4 turkeys come running down the pine bush to my call, it was amazing. I also don't think you can beat the taste, those turkeys are tasty. :D

MOOSE

Reasons:

1. Most rewarding animal to harvest in terms of taste and amount of meat.

2. Usually best time of year to hunt

3. Usually relatively easy to hunt compared to such game as deer, etc.

4. Don't have to wash my clothes in scent free soap and don't have to worry about the type of soap and shampoo last used.

and the list goes on. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy hunting other game, not to mention the challenges faced when hunting deer and bear but from a completely relaxing hunting trip, moose is at the tup of my list.

What I hunt:
NOTHING.

What I don't want to hunt:
NOTHING.

What I want to hunt:
Something.

I'm interested mostly in small game for now. I thought it might be nice to buy a Ruger 10/22 and then try gopher shooting or hunting rabbits and slowly work my way up to dangerous game. I'm especially interested in bear hunting. I want to hunt bears because they keep pestering me every time I go camping, and I've had enough of waking up with them stomping around the campground looking for a tasty bite to eat.

Moose have got to be the best critter to hunt.

not like deer them big buggers can be cantankerous (like some of the members here :p )

One day they will stand broad side at 30yds the next all you get is a peek at their backsides as they bugger off into a swamp.

but tastey.

where I'm hunting they are all on the draw, but an advantage is you can apply for a calf draw.

you think moose is tastey try a nice big calf moose.... MMMMM tender :)

#1 Bighorn sheep, #2 Mountain mule deer.

They both hang out in roughly the same areas, both are challenging to hunt, and you can find them in some of the most beatifull areas on the face of our planet.

My favourite to hunt is pronghorn antelope. They tend to travel in herds, so usually you see 50+ animals in a day. The terrain they inhabit makes getting close enough to them challenging, plus they are very tasty. I just find antelope hunting fun.

You gotta be careful of those gophers , they can be very dangerous.
You might get yer butt shot by other gopher hunters while trying to retrieve them.:D
My favorite is the moose, lotsa fresh meat for Christmas burgers etc.:)

CROWS CROWS AND CROWS. Simple...
1...i get to use lead again so it makes it cheap
2...i dont have to bother finding the crows at the end of the hunt unless im planning to use them for a live decoy spread
3...DU says that 1 crow is responsible for approximately 120 duckling deaths/year
4...your almost ALWAYS gaurenteed to get some shots of let alone shoot a couple down
5...you dont have to worry about other hunters and pressures for a "good spot'
6...i get to wear camo...who doesnt like wearing camo?!?!?

Another vote for mulies. I think a big Mulie buck is about the most awesome looking thing out there. I've seen big moose, elk, caribou etc. but my vote is for mulies.

WT deer. Those big bucks are the hardest to outsmart.Makes you feel like a champ when you get a big one.
When using dogs is fast and a whole lot of fun.
Moose hunting is just boring, but I do like to eat those big buggers.

Start winter with coyotes, turkey in the spring, crows in the summer, moose and chickens with a bow in Sept, deer with a bow in the fall, ducks and geese between sits for deer, calf moose and chickens before closing of moose season in Nov because calf taste the best, muzzleloading for deer in Dec, finish the year with duck and geese and deer with a bow which takes me to start again. Boy do I miss spring bear? Forgot pigeons for the farmer and time spent with the wife.

Before the baiting laws, Spring bears were my favorite.
I also love hunting beavers on small creeks, but white tails are my favorite
( i think!!)
Do birds count, 'cause pheasnats and partridge over dogs are great also!
Coyotes are the end-all for calling, however.
Moose are great, ut mule deer are fantstic!
Do we HAVE to choose??
