I like my hunting rifles to have a light, crisp trigger pull in the 2.5-3 lb. range, and
fitted with either a good peep sight or fixed power scope w/post reticle. I don't
use a sling when hunting and pass on shots at big game beyond 100yds.
Most of my hunting rifles have exposed hammers or bolts equipped with a
cocking piece on the striker. IE: Rossi M92 and Winchester M94, Mosin-Nagant, Lee Enfield & Cooey M39.
These allow me to silently #### or uncock the rifle when needed.
For shootin' varmints, the sky's the limit for rifle add-on's that are proven performers,
such as Harris bipods, big bolt knobs, quality glass and mounts, trick stocks & pillar bedding
etc. Hell, an Olympic target rifle makes a great varmint remover.
It's all up to the shooter to decide what he/she needs for a particular use.
