Just wondering if anyone has tried the Federal 3rd Degree turkey rounds. They seem to get good reviews online but I'd like to hear from someone that actually shot them before I give up the Winchester Long Beards. If you have, what choke did you use? I can't seem to find much info on chokes.

Thanks!

From what I've seen online lately the inclusion of #7 shot in these shells creates very dense patterns and constrict well through turkey chokes. BUT the Ontario Regs state only shot sizes 4, 5 and 6 are legal for turkey hunting.

I think the whole idea behind the shot size restriction is to avoid the use of lighter target loads versus real game loads.

Thanks for the reply. The new regs for 2017 allow #7 shot so that's why I'm interested in giving them a try. But I can't seem to find a consensus on the choke since they have the flightcontrol wad. Any experience with those?

No experience with the 3rd degrees shells but I used to use the federal turkey loads with flitecontrol wads in my old shotgun with a full choke and really liked them. But I got a Carlson turkey choke for my Beretta last year and get way denser patterns with cheap Winchester or Kent turkey loads without flitecontrol. I read quite a bit about guys not liking shells with flitecontrol wads in them when using a turkey choke but decided to try it for myself and was surprised by the results. Still have 2 boxes of federals that I guess I'll have to give away.

#7 shot is legal now!! Cool. Whats Uncool is the crazy prices of these magnum shot loads. At least federals new load takes extra effort for the premium price.

I did see some Hevi shot Turkey loads this week, for $8 per round. I wont be trying those. I got some remington nitro for $1.40 per round. I doubt a turkey can tell the difference.
