Federal AE223 red box or Federal American Eagle Tactical AE223 black box?

Uh...not what I got...here's a link saying brass:

It may not say "Tactical" but it's the same more or less...I've never seen the steel case around except for the MFS stuff...

I believe the black box is steel case not brass. Atleast thats what i can tell from what i have.

Is there different stuff around? My black boxes all contain brass cased rounds.

I sell thousands of rds of the black box american eagle ammo and its all brass cases.

I hate to say it, but without pictures this thread is almost useless.
Companies have been known to upgrade a product at or near a production run.
This may or may not be the case here, but when I was working in a production plant this would happen from time to time.
What is it the Op is trying to figure out?
Is it a price difference or performance difference?
Tight Groups,
Rob

ok, here's some pics.....

ok, finally here's some pics....

I know of the red box AE223.....then the Tactical AE223 came along in a black box......and then the AR223 came along with supposedly a mil spec primer specially made for AR's.....not to be confused with the identical black box Tactical XM193 (5.56) which I don't think you can buy in Canada

someone told me the black box AE223 is slightly hotter than the red box, and then I have read online that the black box AR223 has misfires and can't be trusted

Maybe someone mis-packaged the case. i.e. put the federal red boxes in a larger crate of a different manufacturer or something...Did you buy this stuff second hand, or on consignment?

Something sounds fishy there for sure! All my AE red box and black box are brass case. Never heard of AE being steel case.

Metal case in that pic is referring to the projectile, they don't call that FMJ for some reason. Those are brass cases that come in that box. That's fooled a few people before.
