Federal Brass Primer Pocket Question

On a recent batch of once fired Federal .223 brass I noticed what appears to be a sleeve or insert in the primer pocket.

Here's what I'm talking about. On the left is an older Federal case, on the right one of the new ones.

Different angle on the new primer.

So what are we looking at here?

Crimped, versus non-crimped primer.. the crimp has to be removed prior to inserting a new primer.. Crimped primers more typically found on military ammo, but is showing up more and more in commercial too..

the one on the right would be crimped primers, probley american eagle? , You need to swage it out or ream the crimp out ................ or just send them to me

The cases are Federal Bulk Pack .223 55 grain hollow point and Federal Premium Nosler BT. A few spins with the pointy end of a case deburring tool opened the pocket enough to seat a primer. Thanks for the help.

Got an answer from Federal

Here's what they say about the issue:

All of our 223 will have staked primers. We do this due to the large number of AR-15 shooters to eliminate backed out primers. This brass is reloadable and you will need to ream or swage the primer pockets before seating your new primers.

Having heard that, Federals are the worst brass (IMO) for reloading anyway. The primer pockets expand rapidly, so the primers get loose earlier than other brands.

I've loaded Federal cases and agree they aren't good for repeated loading. But I like their bulk factory stuff .223 55 grain HP so will load the brass two or three times and toss them.
