I just bought 2 boxes of Federal Classic in .308 for deer. My preference would have been Remington Cor-lokt, but I could not find any. How does the Federal Classic ammo compare?

Bullet performance between the two is similar. I've found the Federal Classic more consistently accurate than the Remington ammo. YMMV.

I think I bought some old stock, since Classic no longer appears to be found on the Federal website. Is Federal Classic the same as what they now call Federal Powershock?

You are correct, but the bullets are a little different. I actually liked the performance I saw out of the old silver box Federal Classic loads. I used some out of my .270 WCF about 8 years ago (no time to reload and I was in a pinch:redface:) and the on game performance was good. I actually think that it will perform even better in your .308:D

I have had 5 .308's and the Federal Classic/Powershok ammo was always the most accurate (moa or better) of the 3 cheapies. (Rem,Win,Fed) I'm loading now for my bolt .308 but still have 7-8 boxes of Federal that I use in my 7600.
