Federal Classic Hulls Reloading

Hi all,

I have some hulls here i am trying to find load data for. I Cant seem to find anywhere. Or maybe i am not identifying these properly when referencing load data.

Or, maybe ill just get rid of them if they arent any good.

A little back story: Got these with a shotshell reloader and a bunch of components. I have about 500+ of them.

They are Federal 2-3/4". High brass ( 0.667").
Printed in black lettering on the red hull is:

4 4 4
Federal
Classic

"12 ga Made in usa" and a fed bird stamped on the head.

they appear to have the what i am guessing is the "paper base wad" ( pulled one apart, seems papery).

If i wasnt technically inept, i would post some pictures. I. hoping the descripiton might be enough.

Also apologies if this is something already beat to death, or if this is in the wrong place. I dont do forums much. And i have looked for hors and hours for this informatio without any results. thanks again

do these have much value to the reloader?
i mean, are they good for a specific purpose that gold medals or win AA wont do?

from qhat i have read the paper base wads can be a pain. i checked a few of these and they are firmly intact.
I have 500+ rem-peters 500+ AA and 500+ gold medal.

I also have a wife that has allowed me 6 square feet for a reloading bench in the rec room. if these arent much good they are just taking up space
 
...i dont shoot competitive. me and my wife probably shoot about 500 shots through the run of a year.

thought that might help qith a recommendation on what to do with these.
 
and sorry for stringing all these questions but also wondering if these are referred to as 2-3/4 Federal Hi-power w/ Fibre base wad? getting this description from the hodgdon online data
 
Thats the way i was leaning. i Just hate to waste anything, especially with the way things are.

Yes, they are "2-3/4 Federal Hi-power w/ Fibre base wad" and the Lyman book description is a match. They are OK hulls for loading hunting loads. They are not great for target loads, because they don't last as long but are OK for one or two reloadings. I have loaded them and had good results with both lead and bismuth hunting loads, using wads made for straight walled hulls. Don't make the mistake of using wads designed for tapered hulls, which the better target hulls like Win AA and Rem STS are. So avoid Win AA and Rem TGT wads. Win red wads or Remington SP wads will work OK. Be sure to inspect for splits in the mouth or loose fibre base wads before loading. Then load 'em up.
 
The issue is that the fibre wad can pull away from the base which can cause some issues. I used to load them for slug loads so i wouldnt get them mixed up.
Not to many ppl reload them as there are better hulls
 
As people have stated, they are not the best for multiple reloads. Other brands, with one piece hulls are much better for this. The risk with hulls like Federal and Challenger is a hull separation. If this happens, there is a chance part of the hull will remain in the barrel, making the next shot a barrel bulge event. If you are shooting an over and under, its relatively easy to check, but a semi can cause grief.
Use them once, and pitch them. I use them for hunting loads.
 
I loaded up a bunch for pheasants as they are a poor hull. I don't care if they can't be found after fired.
