A large quantity of Federal FC NT 9mm cases came my way. Very nice brass, or so I thought.
This stuff is the lead free primer stuff so it has an extra large primer flash hole. So I put aside most of it and dumped the rest, about 150 cases into my general to-be-tumbled bin. Thought I would try a couple and selected a couple out to reload. Big mistake.
My Lee die could not punch out the primer. Instead, the primer rod went up into the die as it should have when there is a problem.
Seems that the bright guys at Federal have a serious primer crimp ring on the primer. So, to reload them, you need to get a rod and punch out the primer the hard way, then you have to either physically chamfer the brass ring out with a tool or swage it out with swaging machine. That's way too much trouble. Sort of like Winchester WCC brass.
Had to go through every case in the 9mm to-be-cleaned bin and remove them so they would not get into my system and cause a problem later. Reloading this brass is just not worth the effort.
This stunt kinda reminds me of that Federal 45acp brass they made with the small pistol primer. Goofy, just goofy.

First thing is that the collet isn't tight enough. Lee dies will decap NT brass.

FWIW Most, if not all, NT brass is crimped.

Unless you have a swager, reloading NT brass really isn't an option.

FC or Federal NT is crimped like stated above in 9mm and most if not all of their other NT calibers. WinClean is not. FC can be a real pain in the butt unless you are aware of the crimped primer. I agree with above comment about tightening down the collet on your decapper. Its a bit of a pull but it will decap.
Cheers
