I recently bought a REm 870 Express Camo Turkey. When I picked it up, I asked the retailer to recommend some ammo for turkeys and he sold me a pkg of Federal Magna Shok heavyweight high density (3"). The gun has an extra full turkey choke.
First of all, they did a great job on a turkey yesterday. But then I am cleaning the gun and I see the choke is marked "Lead shot only". Oops.
I emailed Remington to ask if that was unwise and they said to ask Federal if that shot is any harder than steel shot (not sure why that matters -- isnt the question "is it harder than lead?").
Can anyone tell me:
- did the retailer sell me the wrong ammo?
- is non lead shot in a "lead only" choke an immediate problem, or one that accumulates over time?
- considering that I will shoot very, very few rounds of turkey load per year once I know the pattern, and this choke is 100% dedicated to that purpose, is this a problem?
I will still talk to the retailer to check it out, I am interested in what he says, but as a fairly new turkey hunter and brand new to interchangeable choke guns, I thought I'd check with you all.
