Federal hst ??

Good luck. I managed to get 4 boxes of Federal HST 9mm 147 gr JHP. INHO its the best 9mm load for PP. Its jacket has 6 long notches that run all the way down to the case practically.....and on impact, expand instantly into a huge starfish looking mushroom double the size. I think they are running at 1,000 FSP also....or 995.

Call Al Simmons gun shop in Hamilton....or Ellwood Epps in Orillia. Call them both, they always have exotic premium JHP ammo in stock.

Federal needs to amp up its production of HST. :)

I'd be happy if they just put out the component bullets, too!

I don't think I've seen a gel test where HST hasn't expanded rather explosively, and consistently.

My thoughts on it:
Long jacket notches make for long petals, which makes for large diameters when expanded.
Large diameter hollow point makes for reliable initial expansion, especially through barriers and clothing.
Rapidly tapering hollow point makes for petals with thick bases so they don't rip off or fold back with a tight radius.

I could be totally wrong on what feature makes what happen, but either way, other manufacturers need to start taking notes on Federal HST.

For anyone who's interested check out "9mm Ammo Quest" from 410ShootingTheBull on youtube.

I have many boxes of 50 of the Speer gold.124+ P stuff… Which I actually prefer, in 9 mm…
However, I do prefer the federal HST in 45 auto, which I have 10 boxes of 50 of the +P 230 grain stuff...
