Federal primers

I recieved a bunch of once-fired .40 brass with Federal primers (silver in color). My Dillon 650 has always had a problem with these primers, no problems with Winchester (brass or copper colored). When loading, the primers stick to the pin that pushes them out. The pin comes down and pushes out the primer, but when the pin returns it pulls the primer back into the primer pocket. This really slows down the reloading process.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem, as I said there are no problems with Winchester primers, and 2000 rounds of free once-fired brass is too good to pass up.:runaway: :runaway: :runaway:

The Federal primers are slightly softer than the others, possibly the decapping pin is somewhat pointed, try flatening it with a few swipes of a file or install another pin that is flat on the bottom. Just a suggestion, might work might not.
Good luck.

Primer punch

Have had the same problem with remington primers. Filed the decap pin dead flat and then spun it in the drill and used a ceramic stone to remove the sharp outside edge. works fine now.
Carry on!

Federal PRimers aren't any softer they just use an older, much easier to ignite formula as a primer.

I would talk to Dillon Support before I did anything. I am sure they can solve your problems. I have,'t had problems wit Federal Primers in my 550 but have ahd on occassion problems with CCI. Not always with the latter but on occasiion.

Take Care
