I'm told that those 12 ga. Federal shells sold in boxes of 100 at Wally-Mart and C.T. can be reloaded a couple of times. However, I have not seen these hulls specifically listed in any data tables.

Question: When looking up loading data tables, can any of the listed Federal shell types be used (safely substituted) in order to locate powder, wad & primer info?

Somebody here most reload this stuff:

Any recipes?

Federal hull

Sorry, but those hulls are meant to be shot once and then thrown in the garbage, IMHO. Too much risk for the paper basewad to become damp and later dislodging in your barrel after reloading. Stick with the Remington Wal-Mart bulk ammo; a one piece hull fine for reloading.

Thanks Shootshellz. I'll be sure to toss them after 1 reload. That will keep me going until I get my hands on some better hulls.

I understand that these Federals are a straight-walled hull, which should work fine with my Claybuster 2100 wads.

Nevertheless, I'm still looking for real data to make 1 oz. target loads from these hulls. Anybody?

The data for federal "hunting" loads can be used with those promo hulls. The base wad construction and internal volume is identical. If you have some "hunting" hulls compare them with he promo hulls to be sure. Just cut a couple in half with a hacksaw and measure/observe. I sometimes use the promo hulls and actually like loading them for some applications, but the base wad is the weak point. Inspect the base wad and crimp each time before you load and you will probably get 4-6 loads from them.

I have been loading these along with Winchester and other hulls. I have been using Lee and Lyman data, but was not being too particular as to what hull I used.

Go to "shotgunworld.com", reloading section. Lots of guys reload Federal hulls but only for a couple times max. It is said that the paper base wads can come loose and obstruct the barrel. Never seen this happen as when I started loading shells most came with paper base wads. These days I only load Rem. STS, Gun Clubs and WW HS. Enough good quality hulls in dumpsters at trap ranges as not very many reload shot shells anymore

I reload these all the time, there is lots around and no one is fighting you for them, like the AA hulls. Because there are so many I typically only reload once, I have done more without issue, but the crimps get dirty. As for data, there is typically a Federal Gold Plastic I use. Not the paper ones. As for my receipes; I use a CB 2100-12 (12SO) wad white for 1oz load and put that over 18.5gn promo prowder. I use a CB 4100-12-B wad for 7/8oz load, these are over 16.5gn promo. Hope it helps.

buy a recent copy of Lyman's Shotshell Reloading manual. It has great color to size comparison pages for cross sectioned hull I.D. And all the data you need. I've used the cheap 100 box Winchester promo hulls for 0 buck reloads, but only reloaded once so far.
