Howdy folks:

I'm looking at a case of Federal TruBall Deep Penetration 12 gauge 2 3/4" slugs and I am curious if their performance lives up to the hype.
Anybody got any real world experiences with these shells that they would care to share? I can get a case for $300, which might be considered
a good deal these days, but I have no experience with them so I'm not sure if I should buy, or not.

Thanks.

I think there was a CGNer who had done some testing on a few different types of slugs, do a search for that.

Believe he had some really decent videos posted to youtube. From what I recall the Fed TruBall was superior to the regular foster slug and right in there with the famed Brenneke slug type

Thanks, I have seen his videos and while they were quite informative and I did enjoy watching them, there's a world of difference between shooting a block of gelatin at 7 meters
and shooting Bullwinkle at 75 meters.

From what I have read they are not as accurate over a given distance compared to slugs. For penetration they are better than hollow point deer slugs but not as good as a Brenneke slug

From what I've read, they are much more accurate then conventional foster slugs and they offer better penetration then a Brenneke slug.
But hey, who the hell believes anything they read on the internet? I certainly don't. This is why I ask for the opinions of people with
real world experience, so that I'm not reliant on internet propaganda ( hopefully ). But thanks for your input, every little bit counts. :)

I guess I'll be the first member of the CGN community to use the Federal Truball Deep Penetrator ( notice how I used the correct name this time "thechineseguy" ;) ) 12 gauge
shot shells.

I have several boxes I have been saving for some experimenting. I don't hunt but I imagine phone books, water jugs and various junk will give some idea of their performance vs. other slugs.

Buy one box and try 'em first. Bambi won't know or care what killed him if the accuracy out of your shotgun is any good.

I've used them for deer for that last 4-5 years after finding that the accuracy/quality of Challengers seemed to be declining while the price was increasing. The "deep penetrators" are supposed to be harder and a higher antimony content than the regular Tru-balls and shoot accurately for me out of a 23" barreled 870 with an Eotech. By accurately I mean accurately enough to 100yds, about 3-4 MOA, but no comparison to the range and accuracy of sabots from a rifled barrel. I've had a hard time finding them for the last 3-4 years although the regular lead Tru-ball are common. I don't think the terminal performance is a factor for deer and I wouldn't have any hesitation using them for bear.
I'd be interested in a case as well if it's a retailer you'd care to share by PM
