** Problem solved: the dummies were too big, the plastic jammed in the magazine... took a while to wear down the edges until they popped out. Gun works fine now!


Hey guys,

I just got my first shotgun - a Fabarm Martial 14". The thing is super sweet, so I loaded it with a couple of dummies.

When I pump it nothing chambers - and the bolt doesn't stay open?! I think it has some free carrier feature I can't figure out. I can see the shells, but they stay stuck inside the mag cylinder. Could it just be they're stuck?

For some reason the gun didn't come with a manual :confused::confused: Is there one online for Fabarm?!?!?!

Is my gun busted, or is there some obscure lock I can't figure out?

Manuals still are not available, unfortunately.
The bolt will not stay open because it is spring loaded. Some like the feature I don't. You just need to remove the spring if you don't.
To strip the gun, unscrew the mag cap. Pull out the barrel. Then pull on the forend, the bolt assembly will come out. Pull the spring off the mag tube, then reassemble in reverse order. Make sure the bolt is properly seated with the small plunger inside and not under it.

Your gun should of course feed. However your dummy rounds may just be out of spec. Go to the range and try real ammo, if the trouble persists, send it to us for repair.

dummy rounds if there the factory made ones not just a used case that you have made into a dummy rouns, do not work very well.
I have 3 sets of 2 made by different compnays and none of them work that well.
As redleg said, i allso do not liek the spring
take it out you will be much happyer.

Cool, so it's the dummy rounds - the ones I have are Pachmayr. Guess I'll be taking it apart a lot sooner than expected!

I'm taking it to the range tomorrow, I'm expecting everything will be Ok then.

Dummies / Snap Caps

A-Zoom snap caps from Gobles. I have 9mm and 12 ga. There are none better - faultless and foolproof.

I cracked a set of Pachmayrs and posted about it awhile back. They are only really good for doubles to decock.

Any load/reload training would be best done with solid metal ones like Azooms or making up your one dummies with spent cartridges filled with something(sand) and sealing them back.

Note: if you make your own with old cases, take the time to colour/paint them something noticeable to make them easily recognisable over live rounds.
 
I made my own dummy shells by using empty cases.

Size and deprime, insert wad (no powder or primer), add 1 1/8oz of shot and crimp.

Use hot glue in the primer pocket, and when set trim flush with the base. I made 25 and keep them in a box marked dummies.

You could also blacken the brass base as an indicator.
 
Snap caps ... How many times can you cycle them before the rim gets all chewed up?

Maybe on a double action gun, you can keep pulling the trigger for practice, but on a manual shotgun .... Spend your money on a flat instead and feed your gun good fodder.
