I know it's no 10/22, but by the time you have a bull barrel and chassis on one of those, you are way past 1k... Plus bonus points for 20rnds stick mags.

So, who's got one, and how is it?

Bought one and like it so far. Little bit of sandpaper to the magazine and slides in our way better now. At 25 yards with 10 shots all in a dime easily. At 100 yards all inside a looney first time out. 1-4 power at scope on it. Trigger is a bit of a pull 1st shot but after that just release till it clicks and way shorter pull.

Before buying, watch a video on what you have to do to clean the 64. Like many old 22 designs, it's a chore.

I bought a 64 FVXP for the kids to shoot. Decent enough rifle for the price, but I'm not sure I'd buy it again.

I had a 64 TR SR and I wasn't impressed with the accuracy. Cannot imagine they changed the barrel. Pulling the barrel to remove the bolt is a poor design. I'd still take a 10/22 over it.

I've got a 'standard' 64 about 6 years old and one that's a 2021-2? Both can do 0.75 - 0.5" at 50, the 'new one' has a 4x scope and the old one a 3-9x. I just spray clean the bolt area with 'dri-silicone', rarely take it out of the receiver to clean. And I've got the trigger down to ca 2# with a $20 MCarbo kit for the sear and bic-spring for the return. Still half the price of a Ruger ! The design was started in '64, same as the Ruger, just in a Canadian market at first so not a big exposure.

When I finally decided this was the time to add a 22lr semi to the cabinet I looked at the Savage 64 Precision. It was ok but just didn't do it for me. Felt kinda wimpy/cheap compared to my Savage MKII TR.
I had a budget of $500 when I started out only because I wanted to see what was out there even tho I was willing to spend more on this "one and only".
Long story short......I ended up ordering a DLASK 9" TUFF22 TD. It's been years since I owned a 10/22 but remember the VLEH was a lot of fun when I had it.

I have had one and didn’t think much of it. I now have a Marlin 795 and model 60 and love them. They are very accurate and easy to clean.

Recently got a 64 TR-SR that I haven't shot yet and some of the replies here does not instill confidence. Did the mccarbo spring replacement and added the brake. Had to file the plastic shroud on the 20 round mag I had for the original 64 as it wouldn't fit in the boyd's stock. Also had to back off the stock screws a tad as it wasn't free floated at the recommended 15 in/lbs. Originally was looking at the A22 pro varmint with the accutrigger and rotary mag but preferred the shorter barrel. Having no issues with the base model 64 and it easily outshooting my browning buckmark made me decide on another 64. Just waiting for snow to disappear to try it out. Good luck with your precision model.

Recently picked up a new 64 Precision and found this thread. Put a Vortex 3-9x40 on it

Only one short range session so far. Cleaning process is a bit of a hassle but hoping a boresnake will reduce the need for teardown. Considering painting the chassis to make it different

I just didn't want to spend the extra on the 10/22 or follow the crowds that direction :)

I got one a short while back and am really impressed with this rifle. Outfitted with a Vortex 6-24x 50 scope, accuracy rivals that of my Ruger American Target bolt action. Totally reliable even wirh the 20 round magazine, cycles everything I put through it. This rifle is a real diamond in the rough, and for the price point has been an excellent rifle. I highly recommend it to anyone

Update: Added a bipod to the 64. So far I've put somewhere between 150-200 rounds through it. No feed or firing issues with the CCI or Eley I used. Even ran some old DND 22lr I had in the safe and it worked fine too.

Now I just need more time on the range so I can improve my part of the equation :)

I have a 64 FV-SR that I really like. It's basically the same rifle in a cheaper stock and less the 20rd mag.
I've had very good luck with it so far; it'll shoot most ammo under 1" for a 5 shot group at 50 yards, with the odd hero group.
It cycles SV or HV equally well.
64s are very basic but have the advantage of all steel parts.
The mags are the only weak point, but they will last a while before causing problems usually.
