Whistler woman handed $60k fine for feeding and attracting bears

It’s being called a precedent-setting case. A resident of Whistler has received a $60,000 fine for feeding and attracting bears to her property.

According to the BC Conservation Officer Service, this is the highest overall penalty imposed under the Wildlife Act in BC.
Zuzana Stevikova was sentenced earlier this week in North Vancouver Provincial Court.

Most of the money from the fines will go to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.

An investigation was launched in 2018 by the BCCOS after a complaint was received advising the resident had been feeding black bears for some time.

Investigators found she was feeding black bears throughout the summer of 2018.
Up to 10 cases of apples, 50 pounds of carrots and up to 15 dozen eggs were purchased on a weekly basis to feed the bears.

“The primary concern of the COS is public safety. Illegally feeding or placing attractants to lure dangerous wildlife, such as bears, is an extremely dangerous activity,” said COS Sgt. Simon Gravel.

“Once bears learn to associate humans with food, it creates a public safety risk.”

The BCCOS hopes this significant penalty will deter others from similar activity.

I was just going to post this news story.
Stupid cee ewe next tuesday causing a world of hurt for her neighbors and the bears had to pay for her stupidity with their lives.
Reminds me of the other idiots in Whistler who fed the bears with home made fruit pies and complained about the bears raiding their kitchen.
Few weeks later the Police raided the house as it was also being used a brothel.
To much fresh mountain air causes people to do stupid things.

The Whistler bears will probably have to be destroyed. One they're are habituated to human handouts there is little chance of returning to the wild. It's doubtful even relocation will work. I'm sure her neighbours are most impressed.

She of course will wonder why all the fuss - in her mind she's doing nothing wrong. I wonder if she recently moved from the city into the country - that would explain a lot.

When we stop feeding them bullets and start feeding them pies, it’s hard to maintain any natural fear of humans. The old adage “a fed bear is a dead bear” is probably too honest for the “my safe space” age.

when I read this story I asked myself what's wrong with people these days. she has done more harm to the bears in the long run.

What it takes for someone that stupid to learn what they are doing is wrong is when a bear turns on them and attacks the person who is feeding these bears. or one of their loved ones getting attacked . I remember one time I was having a garage sale and I mentioned all the coyotes ? or was it foxes that were all over the neighborhood. then this woman said oh those are my baby's. then I said your not feeding them are you ? she said oh yes I am . then I said your in the wrong now they are killing cats and dogs and wreaking havoc in our neighborhood due to the fact they aren't afraid anymore.

I got this oh really . and I said YES . one thing that's almost impossible to cure is stupid syndrome.
