Got some 3031 and 150 fmj 308 bullets and from the tables it looks like 39 grains is a nice mix for my M14s. Might start at 39 and work up to 40 but looking at the tables I can go up to 42 grains and that's one grain off the max loads. I'm thinking 39-40.5 grains IMR 3031.

Thoughts or should I move this to the reload section?

Hi. Work up the load from the starting load. According to Hodgdon's site, 39 grains is below the 40.2 grain minimum. Not enough to cause any damage though. Max is 43.5C. The 'C' indicates a compressed load. Nothing to worry about.

The 39 grain worked fine so I think I'll do 5 up with 40, 5 with 40.5 and 5 more at 41. Don't think I need anything hotter than that right now.

Got to pick up a decapper as I have some 7.62x51. Looked ugly as sin but it shot fine in the cold weather. I have the cases looking pretty after giving them a spin with steel wool and polish. The rifle still needs some tuning before I determine the best reload for our little 100 range.

Don't forget that free download of the 2004 Abbotsford M14 Clinic up in the sticky(ies). Follow the directions. Register for the Milsurp site since Badgerdog is kind enough to host all that footage for us. Then come on back and ask tweaking questions.

BTW, did you grease your bolt lugs, bolt raceways, op rod track/tab, op rod guide under the barrel ?

I got the grease in all the right places after reading your posts. I got some lithium grease in a can with great nozzle extension like on WD40. Nothing like picking up warm brass when its really cold out :D

I'm going to watch the video again. Now that I know a little more more will sink in. I'm sure a few thing flew right over my head.

Anyway the synth stocks on the 2009 seem nice and having it function well in very cold conditions was a good sign.
