We have the opportunity to bring in one of the newer scopes in the Falcon line, but we want some idea of who would be interested before we order them.

They are the Falcon Menace 4.5-18x56IR (Illuminated Reticle). They are essentially the same as the 4.5-18x56 that we currently carry, except they have a red/green illumination in the center of the reticle controlled by a "click free" rheostat to adjust the intensity.

They are currently available in the ML16 reticle (same as MP20, but with 16 stadia lines rather than 20). Metric and standard.

Price is $454.49 plus tax and shipping. If we get enough interest we will try to add some to the 4-14x44FFP order arriving in September.

CyberK, could you tell me more about the warranty on Falcon scopes? Falcons website says there's a conditional warranty, and says to contact the dealer for more info.
I've been wanting the Menace, but am going to look at the Vortex line. They have a "no fault" lifetime warranty, and include a good lot of information on the scopes in each package.
On the other hand, a Vortex similar to the Menace is about $120.00 more...

Our standard warranty is five years. It is a warranty against scope failure due to factory defects only. I guess that's where the "conditional" comes in. If the scope is damaged due to abuse or user error, it will not be replaced. I think this is pretty reasonable.

An illuminated reticle scope in that magnification with a milling reticle at that price should be the giant killer of tactical scope value.

I guess it depends who you ask on this !~! LOL :D :kickInTheNuts:
Just giving you a hard time bud!!

Any how, on to serious matters.

My question is, while I am familiar with the idea, I am not familiar with its applicaiton.

Under what condtions would an illuminated reticule be advantagious?? If its to dark to see the reicule, would an illuminated reticule not simply make it eaiser to see the reticule and nearly impossible to see the target??

Further, is the system reliable, and what type of testing has it undergone??

I am truly not trying to be an a$$ here, I really do want to know from those that have experience on the value/flexibity added.

Regards

AbH

Here is what the ML16 reticle looks like. Right now this is the only reticle they produce it in. Basically it is the same as the older MP20 with 16 stadia lines vice 20. This reticle has been very popular with the Falcon line.

what I do

I have both an MP20 reticle Falcon scope and an IR Falcon scope (guess I like'em!) The first is for target work. The second is on my hunting rifle. The MP20 works great until contrast goes soft, then it's a bit of a problem. It doesn't have to be dark, just poor contrast and old eyes. The IR scope cures this problem. In good contrast, I turn it off and use the black dot and post. In poor contrast, I turn it on, just enough to make the dot obvious against the background. Sometimes, just for fun at the range, I'll put the green dot on the orange target. Anyway, the IR is great for those of us whose eyes are now having trouble with shadow detail. Still, I guess this means you'll see only the centre dot, and not the reticle: or is the whole reticle illuminated???? There's a thought.

Are the metric models not closer to 1/3" per click?

Eh, not going to go that route, I can live with the 1/4" clicks if there was a Illuminated 4-14x44FFP with the MP-20 pattern as it appears to have thicker outer lines then the Mil-Dots.

If this scope was 50mm instead of 56mm would have worked too but dont want that big of a scope ... unless someone can confirm it shares the same thread with the Nightforce NXS or Benchrest model.

Sorry for the hijack.

ABH, in low but still legal hunting light, a reticle can dissapear when viewing a darkened game. As was described, there isn't enough contrast between the reticle and the target object to separate.

Think black on black.

So the light provides that contrast. You only have it bright enough to see. It really can be quite dim. yes, you can get them bright enough that it is like pointing a flashlight in your eye.

They can also speed up target aiming. Like the dot scopes now popular for close work in dusty climates, it can help a hunter put the crosshair on the game quickly in thick cover.

That was the premise for the duplex reticle.

Jerry

PS nice looking scopes.

I've been messing around with the 1.5-5x 30mm SIR that I bought. The illumination is a nice feature. I agree with Mystic Player about it's uses.

There are three distinctive uses that I can see.
1) Low light, easier to see the reticle,
2) black crosshair on black target, easier to distinguish between the two,
3) CQB, the red/green colour does help you acquire the target faster (think video game).

An illuminated 4-14x 44mm would be pretty good.

A 6.5-20x 50mm with the 94 percent or better light transmission and I'd consider buying them instead of Zeiss Conquest for varmint rigs. We can always hope.

Still waiting for the T-50 as well :D
