I hunted last week for moose with the same group as previous years - we were not successful. We had adult activity with three good sightings but none of us had drawn an adult tag so with only calf tags, of course the two bulls and one cow went merrily on their way. It had been disappointing when again this year none of the dozen members of our group drew an adult tag (no minimum group size in our wmu). But that's the luck of the draw - maybe next year. It was still a good "hunt". The camaraderie, the good weather, experiencing the wildlife, just being in the woods and the anticipation still makes it all worthwhile, right? However, today I became annoyed - maybe pissed off is more accurate. I was talking with a friend who had unsuccessfully hunted in the Honey Harbour area last week. He had not been successful in the draw either. He told me of one group who hunted in the Honey Harbour area that was successful. A small group, all members of the same family who's name I know but will not say, who had killed a cow and calf at the beginning of the week. Then later in the week word got around that a bull and a cow were sighted in a specific area so they went out and killed them both - four moose in total. They had no adult tags or tags of any kind for that matter - with Métis status it's not required. Doesn't seem right.

Definetly sucks, if we are all equal then everything should be equal, laws, regs etc. But that's not how it is so we have to accept it I guess. That's alot of meat for a small group to get, figured they would leave an animal for someone else, lol. When is the time going to come that all Canadians are on a level playing field, totally equal. When do we stop paying and paying for the past, I wasn't even dreamed of back then, lol. I have nothing against first nations peopl so don't hit me with the I'm racist crap, just think we should all play by the same rules in the same country, it's been long enough.

Someone's ancestors got screwed over somewhere in history in every country, but they got over it and don't have a bunch of antiquated treaties to abide by where the recipients pick out the raisins.

I concur with that statement. In Eastern Europe the vanquished often got to dig their own grave.
On the other hand the squalor of some Res's is quite disheartening. But I recall a few folks who were working on Metis status who were as white as Murphy'e Uncle.
It's a mess.

The Honey Harbor, Penetanguishene area has a very high percentage of Metis folks with many carrying "harvesters" cards. So the story you describe is common place. You absolutely right in my opinion. We as are basically being discriminated against because our ancestors never had ### with Indians. If they had we would also be considered Metis, posses harvesters cards and be able to hunt as they do. My family immigrated from Ireland in 1834 and after our ancestor search was done it was confirmed there was not a speck of native blood mixed in there. So us hunters in the family remain in the moose lottery like the rest of the folks who over the generations married with in there own kind.
Life's not fair, that's just the way it is.

They shouldn't have any special benefits. We are all Canadians. I could go on and on about this issue but there's no point I suppose.

If it took a cheque of a vast amount to burn the treaty , i vote yes. Our country might be screwed for many year but it would hopefully someday come out of debt .

I wonder if discrimanation lawsuit took place what the out come would be .

Another thought .. Every person that might have or did vote in the government at that time is dead thus their views should not be represented by the current inhabaitants, isnt that how democracy works ...sorta

Yes... and next week is the first week of deer season and I'll be hunting the Honey Harbour / Georgian Bay area with my friend who I mentioned in my original post and some others. Doe tags are way down this year and we only have two - me and one other in our group were successful in the antlerless draw for 46. I have no doubt we will use our antlerless tags within the first few days and then be very cautious the remainder of the week to clearly identify horns. Meanwhile this same group / family will be out and about taking fawns, does & bucks at every opportunity.

boohoo, I'm metis, tho i play by the same rules as all the other non native hunters and also pay full pull for licences , tags, fuel, ect ect ect.
so tired of these trash on aboriginals, hunting threads LOL
fill yer boots, I have zero issue with metis , or any other treaty indian harvesting for sustenance. neither does our governments so suck it up, it's the reality we ALL live in.
I posted pics today of our successful moose hunt...... camped a mere 19 km from a large first nations indian reserve.
better luck next year, and i do really mean that.

We hunted between Terrace Bay and Marathon this year and were told that natives had taken over 30 moose out of that area the previous fall. How's that okay? They destroyed the population in that area. Probably used their traditional. 300 Win Mags and quads, too. Frustrating. They should take an interest in managing the moose population as much as anyone else and should abide by the same rules as the rest of us. Or use traditional hunting methods that they used when the treaties were written up.

The real world in a nutshell! Burn the treaties and treat everyone as equals.

So you think it's ok to not have to follow any laws regards to conservation? No limits to how many animals or how many fish can be taken? Hunt and fish untill there is nothing left to hunt and fish?
