Felt marker for marking brass

I have used these for a very long time, load info, how many times brass is used etc..

It comes off next time the brass gets cleaned.

These are the ones I use as well, but I mostly mark primers, and have a separate tag to identify load, etc.

If you need to remove the permanent ink, you can use Brak-Kleen.

Is there a way to permanently color / mark / dye brass so that it doesn't come off when cleaning? I make custom brass for a number of antique calibers and have been looking for a method to tell them apart.

Only actual "permanent" way to mark brass, at least that I know of, is to machine a notch, (or two, or whatever, to differentiate) in the rim. Can serve double-duty as a permanent way to index them as well.

Use 270 for one, 30-06 for the other. Store the rounds in seperate well labeled MTM cartridge boxes. I have many wildcats and keep ammo in boxes labeled for cartridge, original cartridge, and the rifle the cartridges are loaded for.

Another option, with Wilson trimmer, remove cartridge stamp from cartridge. This works good when necking down. Wouldn't do it if necking up as a false shoulder should be formed to eliminate the rim-shortened headspace problem.
