Felt Recoil Between 300WM & 338WM

Hey Guys,

Having a discussion with a co-worker and I was wondering how felt recoil compares between a 300WM and a 338WM?

Would a 338WM BAR Safari shoot like a 300WM bolt?

Probably. I had a 7.5lb .300WM that recoiled about the same as my 8.5lb .338WM...

A little more with the 338...Basiclaly , if you can shoot a 300, you can shoot a 338..

I would think the 338 BAR might even recoil less compared to the 300 mag in a bolt...the autos usually soak up abit of the felt recoil...at least I assume so Plus the BAR's are over 8lbs in the big mags, add a scope etc. and it's getting pretty hefty

Pretty well a question with no answer...it would depends on so many variables...gun weight, stock design, recoil pad, bullet weight and a host of others. Felt recoil is impossible to quantify.

I had both, could not really tell the difference until shooting 300 grain bullets in the .338. All I have now is the .338...

While a 180 gr is popular in the 300 the 200 gr is not so much in the 338. Recoil tables using the 225 to 250 gr would be more accurate in most cases.

Assuming both rifles weigh 8.5lbs. I'd bet the BAR will be heavier and equal out those numbers...

While actual recoil numbers are great for comparing identical rifles, they do little to tell you what the felt recoil will be like in two completely different rifles.

"Felt recoil." Gotta go with BCWill on this one, The BAR should have a bit less.
