I would take an SVT-40 over an SKS any day. I have long arms and the SVT-40 just works/points really well for me. The recoil is mild on both rifles.

Most SKS have too short LOP for me to use well. A couple inches helps.
Recoil is similar, neither has much to speak of. In my experience muzzle jump is slightly more noticeable in the SKS because of the shorter barrel and less weight forward.
