Female 12 gauge

Speaking strictly with my own daughters exp. she had an issue with eye dominance it would alternate hence having to close one eye which took her a while too master. I'm saying this as a friend of mines daughter gave up with shooting because of I believe the same thing, and looking into it further it is not uncommon in women more so than men.
Eye dominance issues can be easily sorted by covering one side of their shooting glasses. Even a small dot will block enough vision to switch the brain over to the other eye.

Challenger Target #8, 20Ga, 7/8Oz. is $19.99/25.
Comparable Winchester Super-Target is $18.99

Similar 12Ga ammo (1 or 1-1/8 Oz.) is usually $15.99
Occasionally, it goes on sale for $12.99

Sample pricing is from Cabela’s, and you might get a better deal elsewhere.
Twiki: Can a person still get a deal on a mass purchase with a bunch of shooter's these day's

Just wondering.

Remember those Kent deals? But. that was before the 60 cent CDN peso.

Ladies are really fun to shoot clays with.

Perhaps this should be an individual thread.

And remember, a lady always loves to be attired properly where she goes. Think simple, but expensive. Don.t tell the old man I said this.

I just bought a 20 gauge gas operated gun for the wife to get in to Trap this season. She uses a 12 gauge Bullpup design for 2Gun/3Gun matches so she can handle the recoil of a 12 gauge however the Bullpup is a very compact shotgun so she isn’t dealing with a lot of excess barrel length in front of her in 2Gun. She has a messed up lower back, and my thinking was a 20 gauge has less weight, it’s a 26” barrel not a 28-30” barrel and the gas operated will reduce recoil even further for her.
She is quite excited to try Trap partially because she got the shotgun she wanted, so keep that in mind when you purchase, it makes a BIG difference to her that she loves the firearm she is using lol. She picked a Tristar Viper G2 Sport, black furniture with a red anodized receiver , great looking little 20 gauge that she is super excited to try when it arrives next week.
I hope you can find a shotty that your lady really enjoys, there is nothing better than shooting with the wife, absolutely love that time together! Good luck in your search 👍

Thanks again for the response. I’ll let her decide for sure. Just want to narrow down some options for her. As for action, can you share your opinion please on semi auto vs o/u? It seems to me that a semi will absorb some more recoil and seem to be less expensive. O/u may add some weight but maybe more reliable. Am I on the right track?
If you go with semi auto they typically need the heavier loads to cycle the action. They also have a longer overall length typically, which I have found with most women they don't have the fore arm strength to hold weight further away from them.

if you go the 12 gauge route make sure to use the Winchester 2 3/4 980 FPS low recoil loads. It makes a substantial difference and helps build confidence as they aren't worried about the recoil of the gun... they can be tricky to find.

I see you are in the Edmonton area, Silver Willow Sporting club is about 2.5 hours South from you and they have an excellent selection of O/U and semis and have a lot of ladies specific shot guns. The missus and I ended up there she shot a few different shot gun and ended up deciding on the Fabarm Elos N2 Sporting Syren with 28" Barrel in 12 gauge. The missus is 5'3 ish 120 lbs and hated shooting all of my 12 gauges, and really hated the 20 gauge pump she bought years ago.

The Syren with the Winchester Low Recoil rounds was the perfect combo for her...

Silver Willows also has a try before you buy deal there as their rental fleet of shot guns is quite impressive.

Good point. 2 of my grandaughters are right handed but left eye dominant. Both shoot left handed.

My wife fits this general category, so her journey:

Started with a Beretta AL390 20 gauge (20 gauge gas gun). Really like it, but after a while started hating the sound/feeling of the bolt cycling.

Moved to a Browning 625 Sporting (28" barrels O/U). She shot it well, but we spent a few bucks and got it fitted to her (S&S Plus in Polson). Not full custom, but changed the LOP and butt angles, plus installing an adjustable comb.

As she started shooting more and more, she started getting beat up by the 20 gauge (over the course of a multi-day shoot). As was described earlier in the post: 1 oz 1200fps 20 gauge and 1 oz 1200fps 12 gauge are the same, but her 20 gauge is ~6lbs, my 12 gauge is ~9lbs. It makes a difference. She tried shooting some of my 12 gauges, and while yes, they made her arms tired faster, they felt better on her shoulder.

She now shoots a 12 gauge Zoli Bella. Not exactly a beginner gun, but she loves it.

At the end of the day, she needs to enjoy shooting it, but you need to be honest about your goal. 25 rounds a week is a big difference than 300 rounds a week.
