February seemed like a good month to head out for some hog hunting. This year proved more challenging as it was colder than usual and extremely windy which seems to make the hogs more nervous. We were seeing singles (boar hogs) out in the fields but very few groups.

We had headed down to southern Georgia where predator/pest hunting at night is permitted. We were kitted out with AR-10's shooting Hornady GMX 150 gr in .308. Topping the rifles were ATN Gen 3+ nightscopes in 6X magnification. We had a FLIR with us for scanning the fields for hog heat signatures.

Here are a few photos from the hunt. The green nightscope image was taken with an iPhone looking through the scope as was the FLIR. Hence the poor quality but it gives you a sense of GEN3 night vision resolution. It was at least 500 yards across the field and if you zoom in you can make out the trees and bushes in reasonable detail. The FLIR handheld spotting scope image was of us picking up two downed hogs. We were 800 yards from the truck where the image was taken.. Enjoy.

Are you allowed to bring the meat home to Canada? If yes, is the cost of doing so reasonable for any quantity, or would it just be a souvenir sample?

Gotta look into the meat thing, I had 4 butchered by a local shop, pretty cheap for next day cut and vacuum pack. I was headed on to hunt snows in southern ill. And left all the meat with friends there. We smoked and pulled a but, and did chops on the green egg, better than store bought. I did the 4 small pigs, and my yettie 105 lt cooler did not hold 1/2 the meat. Guess a good nights hunt would fit in the suburban, but it would be full. Not so sure they would let it across the border even if processed, will check.

Maple_leaf_eh. No cross hairs in that flir pic, hard to have field of fire issues with a handheld viewer

Doc
The pic through my cell phone does not do it justice, they are great, gen 3+ with select tubes, you do get what you pay for, and we plan hunts around the full moon. Even with cloud cover they work well

Is this some kinda deal just for you guys, like you have someone down there or it can be done by anyone, any links...
I am interested in boar hunting but would also like to bring some bacon up here for long ontario winters...
