Well today my buddy and I decided to go to Silverdale to break-in our new Baikal MP 153's :D (see other thread) and to also pattern those babies up for some turkey shootin' :sniper:

Well I had $40 in my wallet and decided to just try out that Federal Gold Match 168gr as Lanz had few boxes on the shelf, so I got 1 :( = $2 a shot

After killing my shoulder with 50 #4, 1 1/4 shells I decided to pull my Savage from the covers and those that were there will testify ZERO wind

So I started my baby up with some Winchester Super-X 180gr to put some fouling in it and they grouped Amazing:
5-shot group :runaway: Winchester hunting bullet....

Without waiting much I opened that Federal Gold Match and loaded 5

concentrated as Maynard told me on the last shots 4-5 and look at this :dancingbanana: (had 3 witnesses :D, 2 spotting)

then I let the barrel chill for a bit shot few 22LR's and went back to her :)
5 shot Federal Gold Match

few minutes later and now 15 shots through my barrel, 3 shot group :dancingbanana:

the other 6 cartridges gave to my buddy to try in his Stevens 200
and left me one for reference ;)

You better go and buy every box of that batch you can find. It is obvious your gun likes it.
Good Job

$39.50 including taxes is way to much for my $$$

I just bought it for all the "fuss" about Gold Match plus I can reload the brass, soon :)

ps. to those that wonder, I tried today letting my rifle slide with every shot other than really stopping it with my shoulder :D

Bed the action and duplicate this load through handloading. Use the Lee collet neck die and the fed brass you have already fireformed.

Obviously, a MK/Nosler J4 type 168gr bullet makes the barrel happy happy. Also, try 155 and 168gr Amax.

I bet the groups get a smidge smaller - more like the last one. Another Savage shooting in the 1's and 2's. Any chance you can try it at 200yds or further?

Great shooting and enjoy a nice rifle.

Silverdale has 200 yards but I only had $40 to spend :(
today was mainly for Baikal :)

ps. anyone with ACCUTRIGGER I need your input
I was just cleaning the rifle and put the dummy round to practice my trigger pull, well seems like my Accutrigger travels WAY TOO MUCH , it has to get almost to the "second trigger" to fire and possibly move with it.....is that the way it is????

I never wondered about it, till NOW :( help :slap: can anyone check??? seems like it should FIRE around half-way to the "second trigger" (adjusting pull weight doesn't help)

that's the way the trigger works. The silver part isn't actually the trigger, I think that it's a safety of sorts. Anyways, the gun shouldn't fire until you pressed the actual trigger which is the black part.

ya, pulling the first "trigger" aka accurelease, simply unblocks the sear and allows the real trigger to operate. This is why we can reduce the tigger down to 1.5lbs and not have a safety problem.

PS, nice shooting

it's very similar to the tang safty on a colt 45 would be nicer if it was thicker in widthwiden the main trigger foot print a 10th or so of an inch maybe two and widen the ACCUrealese adding a shoe and making it like another trigger would be a benifit for cold wather shooting

Thanx

It was just one of those moments for me

ps. I'm going back to Silverdale on 30th for a lil more fun :sniper: before my Redding Competition die set comes to me :dancingbanana:

This can't be true! I just read on a thread about action printing that a Savage just can't do this. You must have been at 25 yds. ;)

Nuh, I did it with a cigarette butt :D

ps. didn't read the topic yet

for others always welcome to come and hold the target 100 yards from me while I poke the holes with my boolits :slap:

This is typical of a Savage rifle. Amazing groups out of the box. The Remington crowd still refuses to believe the results, regardless of how many times they're shown. Great shooting. Now go to 500m and repeat ad-nauseum :sniper:

This Sunday if the weather holds up I'll be pockin' 200 yards with my stick

yeah well remington fans are more like cult members the consumers ohh the new VTR wow it's so cool

there release one of them every year and yeah next year it will be the MVTR to lure even more people to the updated verson by calling it the Match Varmint Tactical rifle and it will have some ner strange barrle desing i am think a star shapped barrel

not to mention remington coppyed the model 10 preadator hunter no matter what any one says the model 7 vamint hunter is an over price knock off of a savage product i'm geting better groups with mine at 100 yards then i had been at 10 yards with my air gun... i think i ruined the crown soemthing on my air gun or it's just not that good

but yeah savage = awesum if only AI made an ACIS for it it would be great

ACIS does have the "COOL" factor but fanctionality to me would matter more, plus the price would be crazy

I'm just ordering the lighter spring from SSS for my Accutrigger to actually get down to 1 lbs or so on the pull.

yeah i'd love an AICS for a savage but yeah it would probly cost a fortune stocks like that are one of the reason the 700 is even popular at all. most companies specificaly design they're custem actions to be compatable with the 700 stock inlet because they're is a huge after market of stocks that are available for it.

i am considering to future builds a tactical build and a common wealth build both of savage actions why cause i don't wanna use what every one else uses700s and i wanna be differant the savage action is a good action just as good as the remington. another reason it's popular is that the remington 700 got used by the military in viet nam and was used to build the M40A1 if that had been the savage model ten every one would be talking smack about remingtons better marketing plan in a few years the savage action will only become more popular look at gun blast they love savage and it is one of the frew loner rifles they actualy purchase the majority of the time
