Never used fiber optics on a handgun before.

Are they as precise as the traditional partridge all black sights?

Reason I ask is, I am looking at buying one of the Browning Buckmarks, and they have the fiber optic front sight as an option.

What do you guys think...thanks in advance.

i love the fiber sights on my glock, its the first thing i ever did and best

I have a Buckmark with the fibre optic front site. I think it is great. It makes picking up that front sight much easier, both in daylight and low light.

The only drawback to the one that comes on the buckmark, is that it is about the diameter of most fibre optic shotgun beads, which makes pinpoint accuracy difficult as it takes up a large portion of your target when aiming.

Lucky for me, the gun still shoots better than I do, so it has not been a problem.

Can't say about what sights the Buckmark has, but most FO front sights I've used have a small amount of the black metal surrounding the FO tube visible above the dot. If you are shooting up close and fast, just put the dot on the target and press the trigger. If you are shooting further away or slowly for accuracy, just align the black metal the same way you would a Patridge sight.

On the Ruger MKIII Hunter the FO sight is definitely less precise than the plain blade, especially since the rear sight is v-notched. They are good for fast target acquisition, but less so for accuracy. (Of course, fast target acquisition for a .22 pistol is hardly a big priority in Canada. Unless there's a high wind your targets aren't going to be moving around very much.)

There's an element of personal preference in any sighting arrangement. In terms of accuracy I would rank them in this order, from best to worst:

- red dot
- front blade/square rear notch
- 3 dots
- FO front/square rear notch
- FO front/v rear notch

But whatever works for you is the best sight. If you're able to handle one that would help, especially if there are lighting conditions in the store that somewhat resemble the range.

When I took the Black Badge course the instructor was an IPSC grand master and he used the red front, green rear fiber sights. He was the fastest shooter I have ever seen in person. I recently put them on my G34. Target acquisition is amazing. Love them!

I agree, those fiber sights are pretty impressive ... personally I would like to try the flat black rear sights (no fiber) with a fiber front sight, might give it a very distinctive feel...

Traditional black Patridge sights will give you better accuracy. Fibre optic sights are faster to acquire and are best suited for the action shooting sports.

I find the Fiber Optics I put on my G17, GP100 and my BPS 12 guage afford me the capability to pick up my front sights a little quicker during competitions.

A fiber sight is no more or less accurate than a partridge or other straight blade. They all still have the rectangle of black around them that you use for the actual aiming. The advantage comes in action shooting games where you can find and center the sight quicker thanks to the higher visibility.

I've got two guns with them and the rest without. I really like them... but not enough to change over all the rest.
