Fiber Optic Rear Sights? Gimmic or worth it?

I love the fiber optic front sights, but was wondering about the fiber optic rears?

I could have bought one for my GP6 or asked for one with the new X-Caliber, but stuck with the plain flat black serreted rear sights. To me, the focus is the front sight and fiber optics, dots, hello kitty stickers, etc on the rear sight are just distractions.

What say the hive mind? Do the fiber optic rears provide any advantage?

My thought is "No".

The fiber optic in the front sight aids in "picking up" the sight on the draw.

Aside from no or low light situations, fiber optic rears provide no benefit at best and a distraction to the front sight at worst.

+1 to the "No".

As you've stated: objective is to focus on the front sight, not the target, nor the rear sight. If something "draws" your eye (and it isn't the front sight), then you are asking for trouble.

Hate, installed them on my Sig for one range session. Too busy a sight picture, you rarely see them on higher level competitors guns in IPSC or IDPA, and I think theres a good reason for that.

That was my gut instinct, but when I start seeing more of them listed, I have to pause to ask if there's an aspect I've missed. I resisted the fiber optic front sight for years because "I just knew" that you couldn't get a better sight picture than a flat black sereated blade....

I sold (sell?) a lot of the GP6 sights with the dual F/Os in the rear to older shooters who found it helped.
They couldn't really see much of the rear sight regardless.
It sucks getting older - especially when you still want to use iron sights.

I could be annoyed at the suggestion of being old, or comforted at being in good company.

I considered getting the fiber optic rear from you when I got the new sights, but the Dynamic rear you had/have works really well.

I just need a slightly taller front sight. The .140 version leaves me a little high with the 147gr bullets.

At the distances a fiber front sight works best I find you are pretty much indexing on and the front sight alone is good enough. The farther out the shots are the more I want a black on black sight picture. Fiber sights are much harder to get a precise sight picture with. And on the closer targets I wouldn't want all the extra stuff to look at, I'd rather just pick up the front sight and index on each target.

i had them on my HK USP, adjustables made by PSI. Red tall front, with green rears. I see the merit of this system...but I prefer the red FIbre Optic front, with black rears. Much cleaner sight picture.
