I'm replacing at least the rear sight on my Rossi M92 in 454 since I despise buckhorns and was thinking about using fiber optics as they are so nice and fiber-opticy. I was leaning towards a Williams Fire sight rear/front bead combo.

So has anyone destroyed any and how did you do it? Terrible idea on a bush gun?

I've had Williams Fire sights on my Knight Muzzleloader for several years now. My primary method of hunting is still hunting/spot and stalk, so lots of walking through the bush. They've held up fine, but I'm pretty careful and mindful of my gun while plowing through the bush.

I suspect they could be damaged somewhat easily. The metal that holds the fiber optics rods in is pretty thin.

Better check out the dimensions of the dovetail on your Rossi 92. they are cut on the sloppy side and most regular 3/8" dovetail sights will fall right out if you slide them in. I'd like to mount a Williams firesight in my M92 .357, but when I tried one it did not fit, and subsequent searches on the internet confirmed that my experience was not unique. I was wondering about using devcon to take up the slack, but so far i have used the original front sight with a new Lyman peep sight that I had my gunsmith drill and tap.

OH, responding to your original question. I did break one, the thin aluminum sleeve holding the plastic tube broke. But it was easily replaced, if worried carry a spare. The bright sight picture in dull lighting conditions is worth risking the fragile nature of the sight.

Thanks for the heads up. I just measured enough to ensure it was a 3/8" dovetail.

Just a random thought but have you thought of slipping a thin piece of copper wire into the dovetail with the sight as a shim? Should take up the slack and deform to fit nice and snug. Could take some 14ga and hammer it flat as well if you wanted more in there(normal household variety).
