I am interested in replacing the factory sights with a set of fiber optic sights. I might do my M&P9 too while I am at it. Are there any retailers in Canada that carry ones that will fit the SR1911? For that matter, how do I tell which ones will fit? All the ones I have seen only specify that they will fit Kimber or Colt, etc.

Idk about the 1911 as I have yet to updrade my SR1911, but for the M&P9, I highly recommend the VTAC sights.

The Vtacs are nice because unlike most fiber optics, the Vtacs are enclosed with a little window on top that allows the light to enter, this gives the sights tremendous durability over normal exposed fiber optics. Then they also have tritium below the fiber. Great system in my opinion. Have a look at some on the factory "VTAC" fde model at your local shop to see what you think.

I would put some on my SR1911 in a heartbeat if they made 'em!

Locations Snapshots in QC (Ruger warranty center fro Canada)have the factory FO front sights for the SR1911. Althought they are a supposed Novak cut they do require some fitting. They will do it for you if u care to send the slide or if you have the patience/skill you can do yourself. I have it and it is fantastic.

Yeah, I saw that when searching the forums. Their website is broken or something as none of the links work and I can't seem to get to their contact info.

Works just fine with original rear. Only possible problem is with fitting the sight. It is not a simple pop the oldie off and slide the new one in in most cases. It will most likely require fitting in order to install properly. Some guys have got away lucky with easy in/out but most are a bit larger than the cut on the slide.

actually after shooting a new Norc 1911 that had FO on it im very interested in doing this to my both my SR1911 and my SR1911CMD.

hey PooBah can you let me know when you hear back from Snapshot about availability and price?

Got quoted $120 installed for the Ruger FO front sight plus shipping. What do you think, is it worth it? I would do it myself but don't have the right tools or any experience.

the FO site from shopruger.com is listed at $41.95USD
so with the exchange that would be like $50.35
so they are charging you $70 for shipping and to install it.
i drifted out the front site and replaced it on another gun i have, was easy to do.
for $70 im tempted to roll the dice and see if im lucky enough to be able to do this myself.
as long as its just a simple drift out drift in that wont be a problem - its if some cutting needs to be done.....

Shopruger.com will not ship this part to Canada. FYI their retail for the FO sight is well below the dealer cost for Canadian dealers. Drifting out is easy. Installing the new one not so much as they are slightly oversized. However if you have the time and patience it can be done yourself.

i was looking a while back to replace 2 front sites on 2 rugers (a 22/45 lite and a 10/22) and like mentioned above shopruger would not ship those north.
but i was able to get them from Brownells and they will ship them up here.
if drifting out the front sites is similar to the 10/22 it would be easy, that took me all of 2 minutes.

would be interesting to see what the price difference is between snapshot and shopruger on the part itself.
