The darndest thing about shooting and reloading with a computer/IT guy.. " I remember the time we were out and I shot this awesome group...." And he says " I have all the pictures and all the Data"
The Mossberg rifle was mediocre at best. I didn't care for the sloppy mags and the cheap bolt assembly. Within the first year the bolt came apart and I couldn't find lost parts for the extractor so I replaced them with springs and ball bearing out of a Bic lighter. Its never come apart again.
The 50 grain projectiles were excellent and some of the best groups this rifle had on the range. When we weren't on the range the wind drift was something fierce on a windy day, and could drift 20+ inches in a good cross wind at 300 yards.
As said, the rifle was mediocre but it still had some good groups. RD's .223 Savage build was a better rifle and his shooting is better than mine on most days.
This was one small part of a two+ year process of test loads for .223 . I have no idea how much footage he has saved though all the trials and errors over the years at our private farm range.
I had an MVP in the same configuration in 223 as well. It's the most accurate rifle I have at 100 yard.
It's mediocre or even bad with most factory ammo, and very picky on projectile. But once I figure out the load it likes, it shoots amazing.
This is an exceptional group I shot with it. But I can print groups under 1.5 moa all day long without me trying.
