Fiddling around with my SKS new pics

This is a Bell SKS, I decided to use one of the Tapco 5/5 round magazines as the original one is now unusable for the time being. I lost track of the take down lever which was a replacement so I used an M6X45mm bolt / nuts / split washers. I also keep the atmosphere where it's stored quite dry therefore the stock might have shrunk some. I noticed the whole barrelled action moved back and forth by from .040"- .060" so to correct this, I made up some shims out of automotive shim stock to hold it in there tight, (the brass stuff, about .015" - .010" thick, I didn't measure it) anyways here are some pics, there is no perceptible forward/backward movement, and it appears that the stock crossbolt is hard up against the front of the receiver. :) I am going to try it out soon at the range to see how it goes.

SKSMAN has take down levers forsale "unless you like the Frankenstien look :p"

The shime should help, but would love to hear your range report :)

I will get out this week, the weather is improving for range time! :) - I got the mags from SKS man, I also got 2 takedown levers from him but until very recently, could not find either of them lol :D.

Edit: I am obtaining one of the Chicom red fibreglass stocks, my plan is to have that professionally bedded to my sks, the thing is, Paul does not have any more of them for the blade bayonet, so I got one for the spike bayonet, and ordered a spike bayonet.

Remove the bayo too "it will shoot better"

All shooting was done from 100 yards, from the sitting position, the rifle was supported on my elbows on the bench, I did not bring my front rest or rear bag with me today for some reason.

The bayonet was still on there, the cleaning rod was not on the rifle as it would have fcuked up my shims. You know that CZ surplus ammunition never shot well in my SKS, but shot like a house onfire in my CZ-858-2, which does not really surprise me come to think of it, and the complete reverse is true with my SKS, I don't know what happened with those last 2 shots lol. :D

Nobody likes to see what an SKS can do, but the first accessories to be bought are a Tapco T-6 stock, 5/1000 round magazine and a receiver cover mounted scope, and not too many people who own SKS's seem to post their typical group sizes. :D

:p :nest:cou::ban::popCorn::sucks:

Anyways, to get back on topic, instead of caustically lampooning Tapco fanboys, :D, I have got a roll of gasket paper and it's itching to be cut up and stuffed into the concave parts of my SKS stock. I'll keep you posted.

I fired this 5 shot group (benched) :D, don't ask me what happened with the flyer(s). ammo: Czech M-43; dated January 1973.

The group kind of sucked but I shot the group hurriedly (hey I have a million excuses for every occasion :D), I didn't get a chance to try the Privi Partisan, but I will have to do some more testing, I guess that means another trip to the range! :D

Anyways, I shot a 3 shot group recently, it was about 1-1/2" to 2" overall at 100 yards benched, I didn't think of getting a picture, but I figure I'm in good company. :D - I am going to get one of those tapco gas cylinders and drill vent holes in it to get the action to simmer down now! You know I fired that group with Privi Partisan soft point ammo, and again I had the piston removed, the thing is sometimes you have to beat on the carrier handle to extract, when you have the piston removed. edit: also picked up some of the steel cases with one of those shop magnets. (I have too much time on my hands)

fat tony 3 points to bed on the rifle to achieve maxium accuracy.
1.) Front furnel were you shimmed.
2.) @ the back were the stock meets the reciever all the way up to the locking part for the trigger assembely.
3.) The main cross beem were the mag attaches to and the main recoil lug rest's against.

Now the spring located under the stock were the trigger assembely is placed on. Make sure it gives you so much back preasure you almost can't clamp it on.

And now the cheapest thing that you have to buy to achieve maxium accuracy is this...
sks07t.jpg

This stupid little P.O.S. does absolutly nothing for recoil but what it does it does extremly well. This is, making that damm spring in under the rear cover stop from moving around.
Now once this is done you will have to bring some ear muff's because the pinging noise will now start effecting your trigger pull.
P.S. That rear bolt looks ugly but is totaly effective!
Good Job!

Thanks, I have one of those buffers, the only mods I have done to it are the buffer, the trigger job, and one of the Tech sights front 'target' sights, and of course fiddling around with the bedding. Thanks for the tips Satain. :D

edit: oh yeah, I had difficulties getting the trigger group to snap into position.
