For consideration ....
Here's a field target that made it onto a course of fire recently, it has a 1-1/2" Kill Zone and was placed out at 25yards. This target was a forced kneeling shot which meant you had to take this shot from either a kneeling position or the next difficult discipline, standing offhand ... The target was set out in a wooded area during a nice day with only a gentle breeze and mosquitoes to contend with... 23 different shooters took 2 shots each for a total of 46 shots at this target and if you count the number of misses outside the 1-1/2"KZ, more then half the shots missed that zone.... No doubt that getting to know your equipment and practicing with your equipment, will make you a better shot... Field Target is a great sport that offers a way for newbies, intermediate and experts to share information, exchange ideas, hone skills that will ultimately make you a better shot and all within a fun and enjoyable environment. A well placed shot can help improve your chances of a humane and successful hunt.

Now to break out the spray paints and do the touch ups for the next match, it's all good!...

There are a few of us trying to get another club going here in Ontario....
We'll start off with some fun shoots, a few targets setup informally and see if interest can be generated amongst the locals... Most of the clubs I've shot FT at were sharing lanes that were created for both archers and airgunners ...
Great way to get out of basements, garages, ect.. and out of doors for some friendly, fun competitive shooting... Hope to see more folks getting out and enjoying the sport all across this country...

what club are you in ExoticWoody? also where are these taking place, i live just north of toronto and would be plenty interested in coming out.

This year, the Canadian Nations will be held at the Elmira Rod and Gun Club

The date for the Canadian Nationals has been set for Saturday and Sunday, July 25th and 26th at the Elmira Rod & Gun Club and will be hosted by the Waterloo Field Target Club. The club will also be open on Friday the 24th for course setup and for sight in.

I think a few people were a little intimidated by the title of this match and did not attend in 2008. Ask anyone that has been to one of these matches and they will tell you it is just a match like many others but it lasts two days and you get food. If you attend, I am sure you will be glad you did.

The match will be two days, with 60 shots per day as usual. Particulars on the match and meals will be sent out once plans are finalized.

For more information, contact the match director, George Harde at:

Thanks.

Port Colborne Field Target Club is the other Southern Ontario club hosting matches...
Here's the schedule for 2009...

Port Colborne Field Target Club Schedule For 2009

A special spring match may be announced for March or April.

1)----Saturday, May 16th, 2009-------60 shot match

2)----Saturday, June 20th, 2009-------60 shot match

3)----Saturday, August 16th, 2009-----60 shot match
---------------------------OR-----------------------------
------August 15th & 16th, 2009--Possible two day 100 shot match

4)----Saturday, September 12th, 2009--60 shot match

5)----Saturday, October 3rd, 2009------60 shot match

6)----Sat., November 7, 2009--Second Annual Elmer Fudd Hunter Match

For the regular 60 shot matches, the following agenda will be followed unless unforeseen circumstances cause us to alter it on match day.

8:00 AM Gates will be open and sight-in range will be set up as quickly as possible and sighting in will start.

8:30 – 10:00 AM Those responsible for lanes will be setting out the course and may require a short cease fire on the sight in range to set up a couple lanes.

10:45 AM Sight in range closes and shooter’s meeting will be held

11:00 AM Match will start

Unless there are special circumstances, there will be a short break after five lanes or thirty shots for a drink, a bite to eat and to fill the pcp guns. A fifteen minute break should be adequate. After the break, the remaining five lanes will be shot and the match should be done by approximately 3:00 PM. Once everyone is finished, scores will be tallied and awards presented. The classes and number of awards will be determined on Wednesday morning before the match by the number of shooters that confirm they will attend. Once awards are presented, we will be pulling up the targets and would appreciate any help you can offer. Hope to see you there.

Recently, there was a demonstration field target fun match held indoors at the Burlington Rifle & Revolver Club... Held on a Sunday morning during the airgun allotted time slot. The club was made available to the public supervised by senior members and fun was had by all who attended...

A few of us gathered at the Waterdown Rod and Gun Club for some informal FT shooting in hopes of stimulating interest there..Easy drive from the GTA area... Several targets were setup at known distances between 10-55yards and we all spent several hours shooting at these targets and even knocking a few down in the process...LOL
Some great competitive plinking fun with our airguns that day as we were challenged by the winds that were gusting in the 40kph range..
Here are a couple of picture taken at Waterdown that day... Both archers and airguns were shooting side by side...

Happy harmonious relations

A few of us like minded air gunners spent this past Sunday afternoon generating interest for Field Target at the Waterdown Rod & Gun Club
Some spinners and a variety of those knockdown field targets was all that was needed to keep a group of shooters in smiles throughout the time we were at the club shooting....
That was just a great way to spend the afternoon....
