Not really...but some of us in the area like to 'dress up' for our milsurp shoots....it really does make it a lot more fun in a psuedo-silly way

The top pic is GrantR...umm...or Garand...right here on CGN....cant believe I have forgotten

Minor point. If you have a STEN, where are the magazines carried?
No universal pouches or 7 mag bandoleer in evidence. Possibly your "batman" carries the mags?:D

Maybe he just stood up in the middle of a cleaning or clearing drill and the kit is just outside the photo? Yeah, that's it... it's not like he's just posing - is it? :p

so which way did you go- filter on the camera , or use a sepia paper with a b/w negative?

Most digital pointn'shoots have a ''sepia'' setting in their config menu, usually under ''My color'' or something like that.
I vastly prefer tweaking color pics into sepias by mean of saturation and hue controls. It leaves you with the possibility of doing whatever you want with a color picture, including B&W, color and anything in-between.
PP.

Garand, Oh you mean that old fart from the 3rd Pats.... I hear he likes to dress up as a Patrica sniper as well, in Wainwright during the winter sometimes.....

I have spys everywhere.....

LOL
Stress "Old Fart"...you are right!!!!
Cheers
BTW he also dresses like a cowboy as well...isn't that right Dynamite ####?

Excellent work on the Picture of Grant R. John, Grant was kitted out as a Major in the South Alberta Regiment circa October 1944. In armoured regiments, the bandoleer with additional mags would not be a common piece of kit. Klunk, I would love that picture of me "dated", shooting my (T).

Regulation beard. Perhaps if he had a photo with a Martini-Henry?
Beards were regulation back then and encouraged. Troops were ORDERED to grow moustaches.
And if you watched "ZULU" (who hasn't) you would note that most of the actors were non-reg, being clean shaven.

By WW1 beards were discouraged for ONE reason. It interefered with the seal on the gas respirator. (though that didn't seem to bother the french)

Yes ... the WWII impression is rather anomalous for me (but that was the theme of that particular shoot ...)

However, the beard fits in much better with my preferred eras ... :D
