Filing rail slots out?

Received a new rifle, new one piece rail on top.

I want to mount my Bushnell 1.8.5 on it, I have Vortex Precision Rings, Nikon 2 piece base, and a Vortex Precision on piece cantilever base, but the rail slots are too skinny for the crossbars or screws on any of the mounts. I have a set of 30mm Vortex rings and those have a narrower crossbar underneath and fit perfectly.

Is this a rail issue, or are all 34mm mounts the same on the underside?

Can I file 2 of the rail slots a fraction wider to accommodate the mounts or is that a redneck Bubba idea? I can also seek a new rail, but I'm not even sure which one this is yet, waiting to find out.

Just buy a proper rail. You’ve spent a fair chunk of change and you’re seriously considering attacking your rifle with a file?

pretty sure the rail is getting replaced eventually, was more thinking of a just for now situation.

Well if you’re going to replace the rail there’s nothing lost with trying to file the existing rail slot.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking.

BUT!!!! I found a set or Rings that worked today, mounted and ready to go. I’m atill
going to get a better rail eventually but for now this will do the job!

thanks for the tips!

Several years ago I had to file out a couple of slots on a rail, just had to open it up maybe .005", worked perfect. Used a small 8" smooth file, not too difficult to do. However, as Stampede has noted, I also have ended up with a box of "various rings and bases". Don't we all????
